Hate to break it to current R1 owners who reserved day one but you're going to get passed up by non-owners. Looks like no one else here noticed the statement:

"Current Rivian owners will receive accelerated delivery timing, balanced alongside deliveries to non-owners to keep the line moving for everyone."

I'd guess this is due to them being able to batch deliveries by location regardless of ownership status. This could even mean those that ordered later may still get priority. Yikes! At least they are up front about it.
Looks like order timestamp and location are primary and then current owners would be a tie breaker….. They are just not clear on the level of the time stamp, are they sequential by location or are the doing groupings by day or hour….

We will see how it plays out, I got my credit card confirmation on 3/7/2024 at 10:04 AM PST so I would think my time stamp should be pretty good.

Your reservation timestamp and delivery location are the primary factors that determine when you receive your invite. Areas surrounding Rivian Service + Demo Centers will generally receive invitations sooner as this allows us to deliver vehicles more quickly in the early ramp.

A few additional factors we take into account:

R1 Owners
Current Rivian owners will receive accelerated delivery timing, balanced alongside deliveries to non-owners to keep the line moving for everyone.

We want to give everyone the most accurate picture of when they can order their R2. To do that, we're bringing a randomly selected group of reservation holders into early batches, which will help us refine our timing estimates so that everyone can benefit from a clear and transparent purchase process.

This is how they will justify people who live in say, San Francisco who have a later reservation and no current R1 getting front loaded for delivery.
What wold make you believe such a conspiracy, and why would you buy from a company you believe would do that?

It's not a conspiracy. This exact thing happened with R1 and there was quite a bit of kvetching from long time reservation holders about people with more recent reservations getting a car before them.

This time they were just smarter about how they justify "the process."

I think people are reading into thing they are saying a little too much. Obviously the process is going to be complex based on when you made your reservation, ownership of R1s, how close to a service center you are, and a possibility of being picked randomly. But how much of each trim is being bought early seems to be a factor as well. No doubt they are stocked with parts they anticipate are going to be the most popular, but who knows? They did indicate more details will be forthcoming. I'm sure my invite is a ways off since I only reserved one on April 10th of 2026. But that's okay. I want a premium model, and I want gen 3 Autonomy+. And my car won't be paid off until January, or December at the earliest, and I want to use it for the trade-in value. (Currently Kelly Bluebook is $26,500, and Carmax offered me $22,200 last month.)

Okay, they're learning! That's cool. But why so specific about San Francisco? Palo Alto may be nearby, but not sure why that specifically would be a reason. The factory is thousands of miles away.

As popular as Rivian is in WA, I don't think they will prioritize this market. Its likely going to be CA, IL, TX, NY and possibly FL or CO.

"... however we are not offering factory pickup at this time."

Wait, I live 12 miles from the factory and my nearest SC is at the factory. But customers are not allowed to set foot in the Normal Service Center. For service, I drop off and pickup my Rivian at the factory lobby.

Catch 22. Here we go again. After waiting 57 months for my R1S Adventure quad, I became convinced that living near the factory was a curse, not an advantage, for converting an early reservation into a delivery.

We have two R1s and an R2 reservation that we just cancelled. Recent bad service center experiences with both of our vehicles negatively affected our willingness to buy in further. We're leaning toward Scout as eventual replacement vehicles.
