So try to not make this too long, but I have not specifically found this issue in the forums (at least not that my searches yielded).
First off, have a 23 R1S Dual Motor, very minor issues only so far (key fob battery drain, and update connectivity/or whatnot issue) all of which were resolved very well by Rivian Service Team (mobile and over phone).
Wednesday, when I was leaving work, my R1S had been sitting for 8 hrs, as I walked up to door it unlocked as normal and started to wake up from sleep mode. As I was getting into the door I heard a clicking/clunking sound (more on this in a sec) but didnt necessarily think it was odd right off the bat because I think we all know it can be normal for R1s to click, etc when waking up. In hindsight and even as I was fully in the seat I had a brief thought, that this sounds louder than normal and sounds like something is pulsing, trying to unlock. I say briefly, because then the dash lit up like a christmas tree with motor fault warning, warning that all wheel drive was disabled and I was limited to limp/turtle mode. I contacted Rivian assistant and it was initially helpful, it helped me provide a diagnostic tag and instructed me to do a vehicle restart. Having never done a vehicle restart (dumb on me for not looking this up myself in manual) it didnt provide the right steps/buttons to hit to restart and whatever I was doing was in fact was nothing (I think the assistant was stuck in a loop and wasnt actually progressing correctly to next step, which Im sure is an AI issue). So I decided, I would drive home (also I recommend not driving in limp mode if you can avoid it, woah was that an experience) and contact Rivian Advisor for support there.
Once I got home and advisor helped me get an actual Vehicle Reset complete, which did clear faults/codes, he stayed on me with me, over the phone, as I drove it around to confirm no change in performance (so thanks to Colin at Rivian for your support!). Cancelled my service appt and no issues since (fingers crossed).
My question then to the forum, anyone have similar issues to this. I think the sound had to be either the parking brake (which I have seen issues posted about parking brake not releasing, but not specifically cycling un-necessarily) or could it be the disconnect for rear motor? Both are in all intents and purposes clutches (I think?), and honestly thats what it sounded like to me. Almost like a solenoid cycling/engaging and disengaging a clutch pack.
Thanks everyone, keep adventuring!
