I was simply asking if people would be willing to pay a fee, like Ford is charging. Doesn't matter if it's a software or mechanical lock, or lack of the tub, without spending $400 - you don't get access to a frunk in the Mach-E. Not sure what's controversial about that, and nothing I wrote is incorrect or "click bait".
"Are you willing to pay extra for a frunk?" would not sound like clickbait.

The way it's phrased, it sounds like the frunk is software locked.

It's very different than charging a fee for use of equipment already installed, as in the BMW heated seats debacle.

Perhaps a more accurate title might be; "Would you pay an extra $495 to have a frunk installed in your vehicle?

Is this a dealer installed option? Or will all cars on the lot have one included as an option anyway?

I don't get the rage-bait. They lowered the MSRP slightly and turned the front trunk into an option.

Those that don't want it can save a few bucks. Those that want it can pay a bit more.

They're just fiddling with pricing & options a bit.

Must be ordered from the factory.

Why would anyone buy a Mach-E in 2026 anyway?
lots of people in my neighborhood buying them. I got one in 2022. Very good crossover for a decent price.

Many of us will never buy a Tesla and don’t like the look of the Kia/Hyundai options

I think the Mach-E was a very good option in 2022, but there are much better choices now in 2026.

Is this really any different than Rivian charging extra for the built-in air compressor?

I found a R1S build in inventory that didn't have it and saved a few bucks. I prefer standalone air compressors (easier to replace if they break). My inventory find also didn't have premium audio, which I didn't want either because it's generally understood to be bad.

How about spare tires? should they be included or always optional? That's a core safety feature so I'd offer every vehicle should have a spare - as they once did. But now spares are almost always options.

So power frunk or no power frunk? A lower starting point and letting people option what they want is always better in my book.

I did a quick check on the site, and new builds/"Design yours" are including the air compressor ("Utility Panel" in the R1T, as it includes the locking security cable port) as standard, even on the base R1's.

To each their own. I think a lot of the options in that price range or tit for tat so reasonable to choose based on style preference.

yes, and the base price is higher. so who really benefits (Rivian) by taking options and making them standard equipment?

hint: it’s not the average buyer/owner

Wasn’t always the case. I have a 2025 R1S without the the compressor because they changed it to a paid option that year.

Huh? How do you know the base price of the R1T & R1S were increased by making the air compressor standard, and not some other reason (cost of materials, labor costs, etc.)? You are making an assumption.

Apologies, I thought that was implied - I should have mentioned it.
