Has anyone from Scout ACTUALLY confirmed this? I am so annoyed by all these armchair analyst guestimating stuff. From what I've seen, no one from Scout has actually confirmed that things have been pushed to 2028. From what I can see, someone translated a German article from a he said she said situation and everyone is just running with it. I could be wrong, so if anyone has an actual comment from Scout confirming so, please do correct me.

If true, very disappointing. With the backing of VW and Rivian developing software, I thought Scout would have a much smoother path forward. They also showed up at the LA auto show not too long ago. Would seem odd to have a presence with vehicles nowhere near launching.

Not surprising to hear if true. Launching a new brand is a major undertaking for anyone. Even though VW is tremendous they have their own challenges with what has happened with their own EVs, Audi's struggles and now Porsche. It isn't unexpected.

It's not unexpected given the complexities of being a start-up in the automotive industry. I give them a huge buy on that. However, we don't know the exact details and in the absence of that, people will speculate. I certainly wouldn't be surprised to learn that it's mostly related to software development in respect to EREV. Given those owners will be their bread and butter, Scout will really need to get that right and as seamless as possible.

If they pull it off, they might end up being the only good EREV solution out there and so have a lot to gain but also a lot to lose if it's delayed any further. With longer range BEV solutions starting to appear, the window of opportunity for EREV will start to slowly close. If you are buying a new EREV after about mid-2028, your re-sale value is going to diminish when 500+ mile BEV solutions hit the road.

I get why people want it, but it's a rather complex way to solve a problem. Personally, I'd just buy diesel if I needed to tow or BEV. Diesel isn't that much worse than EREV's that aren't being plugged in and a good portion of buyers will likely drift into that habit.

Even though EREV is about 80% of reservations, Scout will need to stay at the forefront of BEV technologies so they can transition their EREV customers before the competition swallows them up.

A lot of spinning plates.

I have a 65 Scout 80. Anyone wanna help me electrify it? Should be finished about the same time as these come out.

For what it's worth, I was interested until I saw how big the new Scouts are. My old Scout is tiny and perfect for tooling around forest service roads and such. That's what I was hoping for...

The first thing came to mind is when the CEO said they could come out with the EREV first. I know they have info showing who wants what orders but my guess is a lot of people cancelled their orders thst wanted a pure EV? Seems like an EREV is just like what blue ray was between VHS and streaming ? An EREV is a compromise that won’t make an ICE /EV enthusiast happy

also wondering if they will switch to just EVs due to the easier road to sell directly vs fight dealerships in court ?

Finally- I’m wondering if the hiccups with software are actually trying to eventually make it through AI? I’ve heard stories of Spotify hasn’t written code in 4 months and its AI just keeps updating its software. Maybe they are going to try a new approach. And rebuilt the whole software using an AI model?

Either way I think this helps rivian get into mass production of the R2 and even get close to the R3 by the time scout gets close(if at all) and rivian can just build on its momentum and get to scale before the Scout starts manufacturing.

For sure I work on them daily, they are the worst of both worlds. Now imagine how bad that cayenne you had as a loaner would drive if it wasnt plugged in and had to leech power from the engine to keep the HV battery from getting too low...
All the car mfgs keep saying people want hybrids-they dont, they just dont want to plug their cars in. The people who know EVs are better already have them. Th EREVs seem like a bridge to the people who are curious about EV's, but if they ever make them the buyers will find out they are a disaster when they dont have a full battery.
100% agree.

Not wanting to hijack the thread, but given all the input on EREVs being a compromised approach for vehicles (esp. towing vehicles), does the brain trust here think the ‘EREV-ish’ approach for RVs is workable? The plan seems to primarily be that the integrated generator would be used to recharge the battery as needed when the RV is stationary to allow extended off-grid use. Of course you STILL need a towing vehicle, and one that will then have to tow the extra weight of the RV’s motor/generator and fuel. See EvoTrex as an upcoming example.

Your analogy is a bit off, as even BluRay discs (not even 4k BluRays) have a higher quality image and audio compared to even the best 4k stream available. And 4K BluRay is even better than OG BluRay...

EREVs are more complicated than pure EVs, and therefore have more potential for issues. I really don't understand the fascination with them.

Isn't that how everything is reported these days.

There's already one out there.
