Just wanted to give a quick shout out to Rivian and their service team. Had a bunch of service work done recently and also updated my tonneau cover for the third time... Had the OG version on my early VIN Gen 1 Quad. It of course crapped out a year into ownership. Rivian replaced with the equally clunky version 1.5. Flash forward to last week and I had version 2.0 installed. As others have stated, it is deadly silent compared to the previous iterations and works beautifully. I joked with one of my daughters prior to picking it up that it would be funny if the R1T rendering on the dash actually updated to the new tonneau version with smaller slats as well. Sure enough it did! Small detail, of course, but pretty cool that someone at Rivian thought through that scenario....

Of all the things that give me confidence in Rivian's future success, it's their continued dedication to the improvement of their software. No other auto manufacturer has made this much progress so quickly -- not even Tesla.

Sounds like Rivian nailed v3 of the PTC. However, they completely fumbled v1 and v2 and screwed over a bunch of owners along the way.
  • My PTC was removed from my Launch Edition R1T config by Rivian, as were many others.
  • I was told I could have it retrofitted later and that it would remain at its original price.
  • I buy the MTC as a stop gap, which has a major design flaw of its own.
  • Never was given any guidance or update on the PTC, when we could buy or how much.
  • v2 PTC appears.
  • Some owners who have v1 PTC have theirs replaced, which makes sense if it was broken.
  • Some owners who have v1 PTC but it still works and some who never had v1 PTC have it replaced/retrofitted. No rhyme or reason.
  • v3 PTC appears.
  • Were told if we never had a PTC, v3 will not be retrofittable to the R1T.
  • Owners like me are screwed over.

It's just annoying that they still won't allow the harness to be added to the tonneau install package. Literally plug and play harness, plug and play tonneau.

If they want to charge me extra for the harness that was by all indications meant to be part of my configuration as a path to retrofit, then so be it. But just allow it to happen for F. Sakes.

The question is how long will these new tonneau covers work before they get bunged up with needles, twigs, leaves, dirt, water... where does the water go? Is there a drain somewhere? Is there a way to open things up to clean out debris? I've had mine since October and has been working great, but I'm wondering about cleaning and water

My R1T was configured with the PTC but due to parts shortages, was delivered without it. About six months later (Dec 2024) the SC installed what I believe is v1.5. I really have not had any serious issues with my R1T but the PTC has always seemed to be on the edge of catastrophic failure.

A few moths ago, it stopped cycling properly, and did not respond to the re-calibration procedure in the manual, or to the various other calibration iterations posted on the forum and YT, so I made an appointment with the SC. I was optimistic that they would install the new version, particularly since they contacted me and asked to postpone the appointment until they received some "new parts." Sadly, they did not replace anything, though they did get it cycling correctly.

I have 18 months left on the comprehensive warranty however, and am confident that the PTC will crap out again before then, giving me another shot at getting Version 2.

Did your 1.5 cover fail, or did they do it preemptively? I have the 1.5 and it's working, but clunky.

Had the same question myself. My 1.5 is still solid. Clunky, noisy but solid.

No... Although it sounded like it would each time I opened it. I had a bunch of reward dollars that were going to expire early next year and I couldn't find anything else that I wanted.

I think the big question is - does your vehicle have the physical V1 PTC installed but disabled, or is it completely missing? I know many early vehicles after the "removal of PTC" were built with PTC, it just is disabled completely. I would assume that any vehicle sold as "Launch Edition" would have the PTC physically present. If they're telling you that "because you don't have a PTC, you don't get one" but you have a Launch Edition that was sold as specifically having the PTC with the Launch trim, yo should absolutely escalate this to get the working PTC installed.

Sorry, are you saying you paid to get the newest version installed, as opposed to a warranty replacement?

I too was forced to remove the PTC in late '22. Bought the Rivian manual cover and it works fine for what it is.

But I assume they make $ from selling the package in the gear store. You'd think someone could figure out which wiring harness I need to purchase so that I could then send them $ for the PTC. :sun:

Moaning, but I do still enjoy the truck!
