Hey all, R1t owner since September here, and i absolutely love it, it's a dream to drive, it gets looks, all the bells and whistles i could ask for.

However i do use my r1t to go grab plywood quite frequently and im partially annoyed by how leaving the tailgate open disables *all* the parking sensors. I could understand turning off the rear end and maybe even the bed flank sensors due to stuff hanging off triggering them, but why, oh why, the front sensors??? why the sides? I usually back my truck into my workshop with the goods to unload it, but the backup camera + sensor combo spoiled me, and im somewhat reliant on it, making it quite annoying that i can no longer use the sensors when i ACTUALLY need them due to lesser visibility. Is there any way to get atleast some of my sensors back with an open tailgate??

Have you tried using the bed camera to back up with the tailgate open? It's what I use when I have the tailgate down to have better visibility.

Yeah, I’ve tried using the bed camera, and it definitely helps, but it’s still not the same as having the sensors active especially when backing into tighter spots with plywood sticking out. The visibility is better, but losing all the sensors when the tailgate is down is the annoying part. Really wish Rivian would let us keep at least the side or front sensors on.

If some of the sensors remained active, people would have the expectation that all of them work and bash the tailgate I'm guessing. Would probably be a nice tweak to fix.

Yeah, that’s probably why they shut them all off, but it’d still be great to have an optional “tailgate open” mode that keeps just the non-rear sensors active. Definitely seems like a software tweak they could add.
