Wow, that's crazy!

A quick story about claiming cameras are undeniable proof - Red Light and Toll Booth cameras in Pennsylvania are confusing the letter O and the number 0, sending tickets and tolls to the wrong person. So Pennsylvania redesigned our license plates which now use a slashed zero. Oooops, now the cameras are confusing the slashed zero with the number 8.

DOH!
On my 2013 LEAF, I had "4O4 GAS" as a personalized plate - 4O4 as in a 404 error on a web browser. That looked like the same formatting as the standard license plates in Kansas at the time (three numbers and 3 letters), although for personalized plates you couldn't use the number 0 and had to use the letter O. A cop looked up "404 GAS" instead, which came up as a totally different vehicle and had been expired for a couple years, so they pulled me over. I had to explain to the cop the rules in Kansas for legal letters on personalized plates so they could find my registration. After that encounter, I picked a different personalized plate to avoid being hassled in the future.

Traffic stops are stressful. I have to say that my only stop went better than it should have. The cop suspected DUI and I wasn't drunk. Just tired from a late night flight.

Even though the Gen 1 cams aren't great, I was able to get a very reckless FedEx driver removed from the roads after he tried to run me off the road and brake checked me 3 times on a major highway.

Glad they helped this lady as that cop shouldn't be anywhere near a badge. Disgraceful.

We used to have way too many cops living in our small neighborhood. Most of them were racist extremists and vocal about it. They were all allowed to bring their cruisers home and hauled ass in our small 25mph neighborhood. They would intimidate neighbors they didn't like. Did nothing to deter crime. Several of them had their tactical bags and firearms stolen from their cruiser because they broke policy and left them in the cruiser. As far as I know there was no discipline for breaking policy.

Only one was a decent guy and the other cops didn't like him. I'm as white looking as it gets and if I encounter a cop on duty I put my hands on the steering wheel and have all four windows rolled down. Way too many trigger happy inadequately trained cops IMHO.

If you had asked me 10 years ago I would have always backed the "Blue". Our country is burning and many have their heads in the sand.

My wife and I lived in Switzerland for 5 years and any interaction with police officers there was always pleasant and professional. Here in the states, any time I see flashing lights in the mirror, it’s pucker time. I suspect I’m not the only one who feels that way.

IMO the profession tends to attract people with high aggression or high need for power and control. These traits can be a positive with oversight or a negative without it. People with these traits can deal with criminals who also have these traits whereas the average person wouldn’t be able to.

The other problem with LEOs is selection bias. It’s understandable that they’d wind up suspicious or angry at the general public when all the people they deal with are the dregs of society. Just like a front line retail employee becomes jaded with customer service if they do not have support to deal with abusive customers from their management team.
There need to be rules, guidelines and, most importantly, accountability for these officers actions to ensure they are only applying the necessary force to ensure compliance with the law. The other thing is there needs to be more positive interactions with law enforcement and the general public need to see LEOs in a positive way.

We need to have officers that are doing their job because they love and feel welcomed by their communities instead of the sort of officers who take the job to “punish” criminals. We don’t want the Judge Dredd type officers but the only way we are going to get the sort of officers we want is to create the environment those people want to operate in. We can’t do that unless we punish the bad ones AND celebrate the good ones.

Well said Donald,

As for myself, I respect the AHJ, (Authority Having Jurisdiction), but, I too have been physically abused by Police, without provocation! As well totally agree with your comment about the natural bias. The same natural bias is now a 2-way street! the peoples bias is that the Cops are A holes.

The onus is on the professional to deescalate and protect while enforcing the needed laws. Skills are what professionals are trained and screened and paid to use. I think the Police Academy's need to train & screen better.
By the same token, drivers also need to be trained and screened better. It is a privilege ton drive, not a right. Our culture needs to grow up and learn respect in all areas.

Totally agree. It seems like people are more entitled these days across the board and that isn’t helping in many different areas.

It’s Maslow’s hammer, except most Departments keep doubling and tripling down on it. Keep hiring more hammers to find more nails at the expense of the communities.

I've had nothing but positive interactions with police in Europe and the US. "Developing" contries-not so much but managed to let locals handle the situation. Most of the time, it was my fault for speeding. Our boys in blue go through a lot that most of us never see.

Well, my R1T isn't gonna help me get out of jail - the camera never records anything! Yes, I have it all enabled. Yes, the drive has been reformatted and the truck says it meets the standards. Yes, there is plenty of space on the drive. Yes, I have restarted the system multiple times. Yes, this issue has transcended multiple software releases.

Nothing ever shows up on the Gear Guard archive. The camera also does not record my trips. If, however, I lay on the horn it will capture a clip.

I have a buddy that has a `25 R1S, who parks near me at work. His results mirror mine.

I guess then if we suspect an issue, we honk. I just hope if such happens, I am not distracted by the incident and forget to honk.

Road cam clips can be viewed from a computer only. You may still have issues with Gear guard.

This is a much better representation of the actual events. The Civil Rights Lawyer is a guy who lives in a red state, loves guns and has a Don't Tread on Me flag hanging in his study. Old school Libertarian ...

My 23 R1S was recording everything since the first day. Then after a S/W update it stopped. I tried multiple drives and nothing. Finally got the SC to look at it and they replaced something. Some sort of module. Everything works fine now. Not sure if you has SC look at it.
