iPhone 17 pro Proximity unlock with gen2 r1s

Has anyone else gotten the new iPhone 17 Pro model notice that proximity unlock is way worse now? Locking seems normal, but unlocking with PAAK sometime just doesn’t work at all without opening the app.

Hopefully when car key is enabled and actually using ultra wide-band this will be improved?

I have tried restarting phone, app, hard and soft resets of the vehicle.

I think Rivian introduced new issues with this update, and it's probably part of the reason the apple watch part of the update got pulled.

I, for the first time, am having proximity unlock issues since the latest update. I'm using a Google Pixel phone though. I can get right up to my car and pause for a second or two before it unlocks. It used to unlock when I was about 10 feet away before and I never got closer before it would unlock.

Hopefully it's fixed with the next update. I don't think it's particular to your iPhone

It's intermittent for me. Sometimes but not every time I need to open the app for it to unlock. It worked fine before the last update.

Gen2 and 17pro owner here. And I too have noticed an issue as well. Seems to take a bit longer to recognize that I’m standing right next to the car.

But I’m unsure if it’s the new phone, new iOS or new Rivian software. For me they all changed within a couple of days of each other.

I did do a couple of reboots of the car for other issues.

Hopefully it is resolved. Until then, I hope I’m not stuck out in the rain.

MY 17pro is the same as my 14pro it replaced. It's always been annoying to me. hoping carkey fixes this problem.

My Gen1 with iPhone 15pro just got much worse with this update. Also recently updated my phone to IOS26.

Gen 1 here, but have a new 17 Pro Max and it def was a step back. My 14 Pro Max had finally started working perfectly.

OP-glad you posted this. I was thinking about an upgrade from 15 to 17. Existing PAAK (G1 R1S) worked great until the last OTA update. Car would open at about 5-6 feet everytime, even when the phone was in my jacket pocket. Now, I have to unlock my phone most times. I know it's a first world problem but I've been spoiled.

Same issue for me - Gen 1 R1T, new iPhone Air and IOS26, so not sure exactly which component is the culprit but annoying walking up to vehicle and having to open the app - I didn't have this issue previously.

I've only had my R1S a few weeks. Had it for about a week on the older software before updating to the latest. I'm using a pixel phone, but lock/unlock has been pretty inconsistent with both software versions. Distance to lock/unlock varies a lot and sometimes need to pull out the app altogether to unlock. Locking as well at times I get pretty far from the car and it still hasn't locked so I just lock it with the app.

I guess nice not having to carry a physical key, but a basic feature like this should really be rock solid before deploying.

Same, I upgraded to iOS 26 on my 15pro and was having issues there. That carried over to the 17pro but I don't think it's the phone.

I had a Gen 1 R1T with the 15pro, proximity worked very well. I got my Gen 2 in June, and proximity was still working well. It was the previous Rivian update (I forget these version numbers) where I noticed proximity response start to drop off and it has continued into this last update. I've toggled, reset, even removed and re-paired phones, nothing changed.

For now, what works consistently well is just tapping the phone to the door handle (I know I can just touch the handle) - but that has me wake up the phone in the same motion and the doors open every time.

lol. Oh I do. My wallet only has my license, a cc and the card key in it. When I’m in my town tho, I usually leave my wallet at home.
