It’ll tow that just fine. It’s absolutely not on par with a modern 3/4 ton though. It’s definitely on par with modern 150/1500s though the features suck on the truck compared to more conventional pickups. While they may have similar payload ratings that far from the whole story. I’d never choose my r1t over my diesel for anything other than a small trailer or a trip close to home.
Pulls my loaded 30' RV and 22' equipment trailer loaded up with tractor bucket, backhoe and implements just fine.

Yeah I get that. Works for our bumper pull equipment trailers too but between some of the assistance features not working, the range, and regen braking switching to conventional brakes on longer descents it’s a no go for me except for short trips in town. We do a good amount of work in the hills or mountains outside of Denver and I much prefer the engine braking and the gooseneck on my 2500. I’d also prefer my 1500 with more mechanical intervention and engine braking than opaque software defined switching from regen to conventional on long downhills.

No doubt an hd truck will do better, but for what most people pull, the Rivian is more than capable.

I buried most of my pride while trying to "fix" a retention ditch that the county suddenly decided was not deep enough 3 years after they approved it as just fine. I would venture to say it was actually fun UNTIL one of the rubber tracks came off the excavator:headbang:

3 hours of cursing and Youtube (and 2 additional trips to HD) later I got that bastard back on just in time to return the machine on time! (to the same HD)
I can't believe you got it back on yourself. I had an operator throw a track on a mini, and it was a half-day ordeal getting it back on.

I was just as shocked. Once I figured out that it was just a large piston holding each track on, I made my first return trip to HD to buy a better grease gun than what I owned, and a socket big enough to remove the plug.

That allowed me to loosen the track further, but then I found out my pry bar was too short for the leverage I needed to pop it back on, so back to HD I went again LOL. That worked and all I had to do was refill the grease again, which extends the piston back into position and I was back in action!

Another Mr. Murphy lesson learned :CWL:

The answer id YES, the Rivian can tow that piece of equipment without straining. We tow a 25' Airstream travel trailer that weighs 7,400#. Our R1T pulls it just fine. We also have a 2020 3/4 ton Duramax Diesel. The R1T has about the same torque and twice the horsepower of the Duramax.

The R1T is definitely a half ton with a 1,700# payload capacity. I always thought that if a truck had a 1,000# payload capacity, it was a half ton. That, apparently, is not correct. My Silverado Duramax is a 2500 (3/4 ton). It has a payload capacity of 3,136#.

Last week towing 380 miles; range dropped about 1/3 due to the 6,000 lbs. Did not even notice the load while towing😎
Truck is a beast even on steep hills.

I'm going to try to tow an articulated boom man lift JLG T350 like the one in the picture home. It's five miles on a flat road. I think it weighs around 3800 pounds. The store I'm renting it from says I need a 1/2-ton truck to tow it. I know EV trucks are different from regular ones. Is my Rivian R1T equivalent to a 1/2-ton pickup? I'd like to be able to tell the rental person I have a 1/2-ton truck without lying.

If it makes you feel any better, I've towed one exactly that size (might even be the same model; given the colors).

You'll have zero issues.

I towed that same lift with my R1T. It is effortless.
As a side note. If you are working where you are staying in one position, you can pull the red button(Emergency stop) while you are in that position and it will stop the hour meter. I did the weekend rental to install solar, and was standing on the roof. I would use it to get me up there and then hit the stop. The hour meter showed less than 2 hours. If I went over 8 hours, they were going to charge me an extra day.

When asked at Uhaul, I'd just responded that it's rated to tow 11,000lbs and has a Class V hitch on it. This will tow circles around any 1/2 ton truck.

The answer, "oh...that'll tow anything we have."
