If it were me, I might try not to let the situation upset me too much. Hearing a 30-day quote on a trade feels quite generous to me, as most places typically provide only a few days’. The most unfortunate part is that the representative mentioned they would honor the quote if a deposit was placed that day, which suggests they may have been misinformed or provided unclear information. It happens in any industry, and I’m sure it wasn’t intentional. I don’t have specific details about your trade-in condition or mileage, but a $56K estimate seems somewhat high for that model year, considering similar 23' quads are listed for sale around that price. That said, even with the $3,600 reduction, it's still a great offer. If you’re also planning to take advantage of the $7,500 lease credit, it makes sense to accept the reduction and move forward with the purchase.

I'd just switch to another trade-in path or sell private party. Trade in is never the best deal with anyone but it is convenient. I found that carvana was $3k higher for trade in on my car, but of course Rivian sometimes makes trade in with them part of their special offer.

It is an estimate because it's based on the stated condition of the vehicle. If the condition is as stated then the estimate is a true value one when you put in a purchase order. There a reason the estimate is saved in the system and applied to the purchase order. Whether it's still in your possession past the estimate window is irrelevant because the stipulation is not in the contract. Ask me how I know.
When you put in a purchase order, do you still own the vehicle or have you traded it in and transferred ownership? Sometimes there is only a week between a purchase order agreement and delivery day but sometimes it can stretch to months. Rivian is under no legal or reasonable expectation to hold that trade in estimate until then. Hell go look at Lucid. There are Gravity owners that confirmed their orders back in Nov 2024 and just now getting them. Would you expect Lucid to still honor trade in estimates from then?

I can't believe they'd be willing to lose a sale over $3,720. I hope you are able to get this resolved.
At end of day: business is business. What if a $3720 exception made for one is expected to be made for 10 more? 100? 1000? 10000? Disclaimers and terms are provided for a reason, even in fine print. If they aren’t essential, they wouldn’t be there at all. Most people know this but ignore (and complain) anyway.

Business is business but big part of the business is the trust between the company and its clients. This is especially true for new companies.

The Count hopes you looked at other ways to monetize your trade. He just got a Rivian trade in value of 50k for the Royal 2022 R1S LE whereas carmaxxx and carvahhhhna both offered a purchase price of more than 6k higher. (so even with the trade-in sales tax offset rivian is signalling it doesn't want his R1S). Sadly for rivian now The Count is looking at alternatives to the R1T he had planned to purchase.

Did you read disclaimer and terms?
There is no disclaimer and terms In the trade-in quote.

It’s silent on whether the order needs to be placed by the date mentioned or whether the delivery needs to be done by that date - rivian reps have consistently advised that as long as the order is in, it’s locked in.

Try Carvana to trade in. We received high KBB private party trade in on our immaculate like brand new 36000 mile 2022 Bolt. Trade in process was fast, easy and painless. They sent a flatbed truck to us to buy it with a check. No “funny business”.

Happened to us too, trade-in value quoted got reduced by $7k for a R1S 2023 Quad Large (22K miles) incidentally also on Aug 8. Making us ponder - if trade in values are falling that much……
I noticed the half dozen to dozen pre-owned Rivians in FL have been sitting unsold on Rivian's site for a year now and only recently have the prices been cut by $4K. Same with the demo vehicles (I posted about how they were unsold for a year in a different there) which saw $7K price cuts before pending sale.

Honestly this is a good thing for Rivian. They were delusional to keep used prices so high and have them sit unsold for a year.

Rivian low balls trade ins
I think this applies to just about every dealer. I got a quote for a 21 982 GTS 4.0 from BH Porsche and it was laughable.

Who cares about Lucid? When I signed my purchase order with Rivian and included my trade in, it’s Rivian’s - they can possess the trade in anytime they want. They elected to do it on delivery of new vehicle. I have traded in vehicles with purchases of new Porsches previously and they had elected to take possession of the trade in before the new vehicle delivery since that can take months. When you sign the purchase order with a trade in, the hand over is whenever the dealer wanted to happen. The value of the trade in is set in the purchase order. That’s how it goes.

So what is your personal cutoff? A day, a week, a month, a year???? How much past the expiration date, do you expect them to honor the estimate?
Speaking of Porsche, their trade in offers are only good for 7 days (like most manufacturers). So Rivian is already giving significantly more… yet you still want even more.

Did you read what I just wrote? There is no personal cutoff date. When you sign the purchase order, you agree to the trade in and the price. The handing over is whenever the other party wants to happen. Period
