I’m looking at buying a used R1T that is outfitted on 20” wheels wrapped in the Goodyear Wrangler Ultraterrain AT LT275/65/r20 - 126/123q

Does anyone have experience with these? This would not be my first choice as I have to imagine they take quite a hit on range - any guesses on how much?

I haven’t seen these used in any forum searches. Is this a good match for the R1T? Do they meet all the specs for EV weight and torque?

Not thinking they are ideal for our move from Oregon to Michigan but might be nice for this winter with Lake Effect snow.

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

I don’t know why you assume that they would affect range negatively. As to the load and other factors that is easy to find on every tire made. I can’t make out the load number on your pictures, but it is definitely there on the tire. It is unlikely that a tire in that size would not be proper for the weight of this vehicle, which is not unusual despite a lot of rumors. I have used other wrangler off-road tires in the past and love them.

That's more than you need. I went to Nitto Grappler Recons in the 116 range since that's enough, and has a smoother ride with better "fuel" economy too. The stock tires are 126 load. The only limit on those tires in comparison is that the speed rating is 99, while stock is higher (130-ish I think). Don't drive 100+ for more than a few seconds, LOL!

Seriously though, nothing to worry about, these are good tires.

57 lb tire. Similar weight to the Nokian Outpost nAT. Forum search that and you’ll find what efficiency people have gotten. Factory Pirelli AT of same size (SL) weighs 48 lbs. There is a price to pay for heavier tougher tires, for as long as laws of physics on earth is still applicable. More evident if most of your driving is not steady cruising.

Oof really wishing it came with different tires. I’m surprised Rivian is reselling with these on and not on of the OeM options- guessing chances of getting Rivian to swap them out are near zero?

Eh, Rivian doesn't want to drop multiple thousand dollars on a used vehicle when it has perfectly acceptable tires now.

You could always swap them yourself with some efficient General Grabber HTS60 that are well-regarded by forum members. (Just swapped some on to mine!) Discount Tire has them for ~$200 ea. You could keep the all-terrains for offroading/winter use. (Which is what my plan is, as my stock Pirelli ATs still have more than 1/2 their usable tread left.)

As if any dealer would spend money to swap a new set of OE tires on a used car. First time?

I have gotten a dealer to swap out tires on a used vehicle as part of the negotiation, yes.

also, considering this is being sold by Rivian it surprised me they are selling a vehicle with nonOEM tires with their vague blanket warranty language - ie will this heavy tire cause wear on suspension components that they will fight fixing because of a non OEM tire

Weight has far less effect on an EV compared to ICE as long as you're using maximum regen and not touching the brakes. Accelerating a mass takes energy, but decelerating it restores energy. Sure, there is loss, but with ICE it's 100% loss with brakes, and on an EV it's a few percent. Same with putting a load in the vehicle. This has been tested repeatedly and the loss is marginal.

They're good tires, stop over-thinking it. The person who claimed you'd lose 25% is either making a joke or crazy, I can't tell which. Unless you plan to run on low regen and use the brakes, you're unlikely to notice much change at all.

Run the tires at 55-60 psi and see what the range is before you swap them

If you do decide to swap out the tires, you can also look at the 275/60-20 size. There are a lot of tires in the 116 This will drop your overall tire size by about an inch but you can accommodate for it in the settings through the software. I had the Pirelli OEM ATs for 25k miles and they were awfully loud. I moved to the 20 OEM "All Season" Goodyear Territory (they are all terrain) and have been very happy since the switch - I'm seeing about 10-12% better efficiency).

I've had an R1T as a loaner for the last week (it is less that 100 VINs off of mine) with the 22" Pirelli Tires on it and my truck is getting very similar efficiency to the loaner.
