Service center is quoting me $110 per tire (pre tax) to swap tires. Isn’t that astronomical?

Astronomical, no. My local tire shop in bumblefrick nowhere charges me $150 and that's not to lift the truck. I bring the rims and the spare tires my self.

$150 for all for I assume? Every shop I go to, whether dealer or private, is usually just over $100 for a swap. They’re quoting me $475 lol

Rivian labor is $220/hr. Respectfully, go to a tire shop if you want tire shop prices. I think my Discount Tire would charge $25/tire.

To be blunt, that pricing tells you that Rivian doesn't want the SCs wasting their time on tires. Take it to Discount Tire or make friends with your mobile service of choice. Personally, I got a second set of wheels for my winter tires and just swap them over in my garage twice a year. I got a Harbor Freight wheel dolly that helps hoist the wheels on and off the hub since they're quite heavy. Even with the mobile service I use they're around $200 to do all 4 tires on the Rivian.

Dealers for other cars I’ve had, some that cost more than my Rivian, come out to just over $100 for 4 tire swap.

Yeah I’m only going to Rivian because I also need an alignment but just pointing out how insane that is.

I have a mobile tire guy that comes to my house to do it. I think it's $35 per tire. He's great.

Please specify, are you swapping tires (changing the tires on the same wheels) or swapping wheels (eg you have a second set of wheels wearing different tires). One of those take more time and effort….

Just tires, which is still nuts.

$282 pre tax, which if I recall is very similar to Tesla.

If you're paying Rivian to simply swap tires, then that price makes sense. "Dealer prices".

Swapping tires at a shop typically costs between $20-40 per tire. This will include dismount, mount, balance, and remount.

Some things which could increase the cost:
- Road force balancing
- Swap/replace TPMS sensors
- Disposing of old tires

I'd say don't go to a "dealer" when doing simple work like this.

I bought snow tires from Costco last fall and they said they would swap my Pirellis back on in the spring for $50… I figured they meant ‘per tire’, but it was $52 to swap all four!

I take most of my cars to discount tire. My local DT works on all sorts of "exotic" cars. It's a personal preference if someone wants DT or the dealer.
