To be fair, for 99.9% of people, they have no clue how to bracket or to tune suspension, they will mess with it, realize their setting are so so and just revert back to standard options from that point on.
The same 99.9% will never mess around with the new Energy App either. Information overload and mostly for the geeks.

Yeah, $73k ($82k as mine was configured) vs. $120k? I'll keep my Gen 1.

Also, Quad is only available in Launch Green+black interior or Storm Blue+slate?

Only wheel options are the Quad-specific "Super Sport" staggered size, a new Bronze 22", the Dune 20" in dark, and the 20 AT-Dark. I do like the look of Launch Green with the bronze, but really they should offer the Super Sport in bronze, too!
$120k?? I think you meant to say $135k + delivery, tax, license, and doc fees.

This made me feel better about not messing with it. Chances are, I would play with it a couple of times, might even leave it on my setting, but it won't be some groundbreaking thing over what I have now.

Exactly, somewhere there is a team of Rivian engineers that toiled away for weeks making sure your "presets" were good. I suspect they nailed it for the vast majority. :)

Personally, I agree with the people who have posted that they are not interested in the Gen2 Quad. I am very happy with my Tri, and the increase in performance and features isn't worth the higher price to me.

That said, this is a great product that is targeting a market segment that exists. It is small, of course, but why shouldn't they target it? I mean Lucid really went high with the Sapphire, right? I am not in the target market for that either, but someone is. I think this is a very smart play for a company desperate to generate cash.

My guess is the Gen2 Quad is more profitable than any other model. Sure, they won't sell a ton of them, but neither does Maybach. Someone wants it, someone can afford it, and someone will buy it. And contribute to Rivian's bottom line. Perfect. There is nothing to complain about, IMO.

Get a Tri if you are not willing to spend the money on a Quad. It is a great truck, for sure. And worth the price of admission.

I was comparing "sticker prices." Yeah, Gen 2 Quad is definitely closer to 2x Gen 1 Quad's "pre-pricde-increase base price, all costs included."

And I realize my Gen 1 Quad's listed price was including over $1000 in accessories. Mine was $79,300 "sticker price." $1375 accessories, $1500 delivery, $225 documentation, $1048 "license, registration, transfer, and titling" (which I ended up getting waived after hearing horror stories about Rivian not doing it right/in-a-timely-manner,) so my official "subtotal" was $83,448; or $82,400 minus the fees I got waived. (Yes, I'm in the land of no sales tax.)

There's a video with RJ in it saying almost this exact thing. He says in the video that in his opinion, the tri is the best all-around they make, but if you're a serious off-roader or you want it, the quad is available.

All gen1 quad LE got was extra service tickets.
gen 2 quad LE gets lifetime connect + and so many new features.
But is it worth the extra $40K? Not to me...

You'll save the cost of connect+ and driver+...ROI is like next week!

I was sad to see the quad already beaten by the lucid. I think lucid is cool, but I'd rather rivian win.

I'm not upgrading, but I'm happy for anyone that does!

Or I'll in theory get a Scout and maybe an R3X for roughly the price of a Gen2 Quad. I'll take those mechanical lockers with the Scout, and have a blast with the R3X.

I think it's gives bragging rights/halo effect for the entire brand. Not very different from how Tesla plaid is the fastest car in the world (/s) and all Teslas are the fastest by extension. Same with BMW M3. Lot of people who buy a base 320i feels like they are driving the "ultimate driving machine". I was hit by one with racing stripes and everything 🙏.

I will believe the price of the Scout when they start delivering them at that price.

And while they have access to VW's production expertise, they are 5 years behind Rivian in learning how to mass produce a vehicle. I expect Scout will have multiple reliability issues with their first production models.

That said, I love the Scout concept. I hope they are successful and survive the competition.

I disagree. Having access to 100 years of vehicle manufacturing knowledge gives them a heavy advantage over Rivian. Since VW invested heavily in Rivian and their EV technology, I believe the Scout will have minimal issues out of the gate provided VW applies their stringent QC standards to the end of line process.

Service center access will be #1
Software glitches will be #2
