I feel a long post coming on but I will do my best to keep it brief.

@Atomic Wheels was recently flamed and I wanted to take the opportunity to share MY experience.

I am admittedly a very detail oriented customer and I can be specific to my own annoyance.

I saw a gorgeous set of wheels online and asked @Atomic Wheels to replicate a set of wheels that would be bolt on specification identical to my 22” brite wheels because I didn’t wanna risk further compromising the admittedly already trucky handling of my 25 R1S dual motor performance R1S but I also wanted to reuse the tires.

I provided a pic and they sent me several renderings to which I responded with revisions multiple times.

listen yall…

I wanted factory offsets
I changed the design so the spokes were no longer raised above the face of the wheel
I specifically requested that not only the Rivian name be engraved on the wheel lip and also that they replicate the Rivian FONT so that it appears factory. The orientation was to be such that it could be read as the logo is closer to the ground. I changed the air valve location to be centered between the smaller spokes spacing and then on another revision asked the engraving to be moved and then centered to be located underneath the air valve hole.
I also requested that the factory centercaps be able to fit these new wheels in case I liked the look of the factory centercaps better than the supplied custom centercaps (I DID). They explained it would add a couple weeks to the build time while they sourced then 3D scanned original Rivian factory centercaps.

Finally, I wanted a very specific colorway/finish that came out almost PERFECTLY identically matching the pewter metal trim inside my car. I did my best to capture the gorgeous brushed finish with clear black glaze overlay… it is orgasmic in person. They’re also at least 10lbs lighter @30lbs!

for the Rivian outdoorsy purists, no worries about damaging these beautiful wheels bc here in NYC, the most offroading we do is when we hit the curb parallel parking 😫.

Santiago kept me well informed over the several weeks from before I even placed my order until they got to my door.

if you have never ordered custom wheels but always dreamed about bringing your wheel vision to life on your own car or you saw some wicked wheels that you’d love to see on your car, stop reading this right now and reach out to Atomic, yes even if they are not for an EV!
My time period from order to receipt was several months but I was informed of this before I ordered and it was my revisions creating most of the delay.
I had to also give a shout out to @AO_Pete whose emblems helped me to complete the transformation from stock to flaming hot, hence the name of this post.
Thank you to all those involved

Sidebar: I also wrapped my calipers in yellow reflective wrap. You can see it a little in the video but it was obviously daytime so it is hard to see.

Unfortunately I haven’t had an opportunity to make a video of mine as you need a videographer.
But to the unwitting naked eye they appear to be stock, however at night when I’m rolling down the highway, through all that open spoke, it looks like this:

I am aware this is not everyone’s style/taste but that’s ok, that’s why we are individuals. Be you cause everybody else’s spot is already taken! 🏳️‍🌈

Apologies... It was satire guys... the wheels are 12 out of 10...

I thought you'd get that and it actually says it towards the end...

Awesome set of custom wheels, congrats! The pewter color works great with your R1S. Still trying to wrap my head around yellow wrapped calipers with Rivian branding...

Lol you must be kidding or new here and I just got here myself🙋🏾‍♂️

If I’m not mistaken, launch editions came stock with yellow calipers and Rivian branding…

until nighttime, these calipers appear stock.

I'm very familiar with the yellow calipers. I had never heard of wrapping vs painting or powder coating. I'm assuming they were silver to start since you have a DM. And I guess they just carefully cut around the lettering?

Again, I like the color of the wheels. I had been considering wheels in a gunmetal finish, but never seen them on a Rivian.

Very cool.

Are all 4 corners the same or is the right side a mirror image of the left?

On an asymmetrical design like that I would want both sides to lean in the same direction relative to the front/back which requires inverting the design for the other side. The downside is rotations become harder.

ohhh gotcha… understanding your confusion now

yes they WERE silver initially! (And so were my logos)

I only wrapped them to achieve the floating illuminated calipers look.

The process is that the calipers are first cleaned of road debris (i have <3k mi), wrapped and then another factory LOOKING logo appliqué is layered over the heat resistant vinyl. Then a light coat of clear gloss heat resistant paint seals the hidden seams, locks dirt out and helps the wrap to look like it’s just a simple stock powdercoated caliper (if done properly). This allows you to retain a stock LOOK but also bright reflectivity at night.
I felt like it was the perfect complement for wheels that show off the beautiful brake hardware that the blocky stock Rivian bright wheels hide.

one day I’ll have someone take night video of it and come back to this thread and post it but that type of video shoot is so complicated especially in NYC.

you get the idea of the look it provides from the YouTube video I posted earlier in the thread. Below is a little bit of the process and a closeup

Thx you @sub !

And u know what? I never even thought about the asymmetry! You're right it would've been a better design choice if id have had the directional design be a mirror image of the other side left to right.

The good thing I guess is the asymmetry of the wheels is fairly subtle and to ME looks good on the car spinning forward in either direction (spokes raked forward or backwards).

fortunately for me ppl can only view the car one side at a time! 😆
