what tier would the stock 20's AT fall under? and are the examples listed "better" at ebing Tier 1 than the stock ones.
The OEM 20” would fall under Tier 2, the listed tires don’t have any significance other than just showing some examples. It really just illustrates the extremes, which are highly efficient (~2.5 MPK) lightweight Tier 3 tires versus heavy duty LT Tier 1 tires (~1.9 MPK) that are much more capable. Then Tier 2 hybrid tires (~2.2 MPK) that fall in between, Toyo OC EV and Nitto Terra Grappler (both XL/SL) likely being the prime examples for the middle category.

In your main post you classified OC At3 as T1. Are you saying the At3 EV is T2?

I would say AT3 is T2 and OC RT/RT Trail as T1.

Offroad > Onroad
MT > RT > AT > whatever street tires.

Any updates to this list. Have 20" rim...happy to go in any direction up or down for the better tire.

You don't need the list. You just need to define for yourself in which order your priorities are: Extreme off-road performance/toughness. Optimal on-pavement efficiency. Or somewhere in between. And cost. How you prioritize these traits will narrow the field.

Fixed criteria for searching:
  • Overall diameter—34.1" equivalent or 32.8" equivalent, and in between.
  • Tread width of 275mm (or 285mm, might rub)
  • At least 116 load rating
  • Ideally a tire with recommended max PSI of at least 48 psi (until Rivian's software allow users to override and set minimal pressure to something else).
If you just want an easy answer... Copy what Rivian has chosen as standard equipment on Gen 2: Goodyear Territory AT RIV, 275/60R20 and set your Rivian's software to match in vehicle settings. These AS/AT hybrid tires are under $300 each from Tire Rack. Just make sure you get the RIV version, which was developed specifically for the R1 and in collaboration with Rivian.

Thank you. Don't have much need, if any, for the off road capabilities at this point. I mostly would be looking for nice rollers, mileage, and quiet.

Is ChatGPT correct here when they say: Load Index 116 = 2,756 lbs per tire.

Awesome. Thank you for the detailed reply. This is a great example of the "good" parts of the internet. Much appreciated.

In a hilarious turn of events, these were two of the 5 or so that I was looking at:

  1. General HTS
  2. Michelin LTX
  3. Nitto Nomad
More Aggressive look:
  1. BFG Trail Terrain
  2. General Grappler (buddy ran these and said they were the longest running and quietest tire of this category he's ever had)
if you’re considering AT then I recommend adding Nokian nAT to your list. They have a mileage arranty, and the noise/comfort is not much different than the OE 21” road tires, based on my experience with having a loaner with the 21” and going back to my nAT after a week.

I found them less noisy than the Toyo AT3, the Goodyear AT are the smoothest and quietest of the ones I’ve tried but i think they will wear out quickly.

I’d also suggest looking at the Goodyear Territory AT. It has been a very good tire for me so fire and doesn’t look like a minivan tire either. It has a much wider tread than the Michelin. You give up a bit of efficiency for more tread on the road. For a big, powerful, heavy truck, I thought that was a worthwhile tradeoff.

Look in my profile for a thread I started detailing my experience with them.

Looks like they get great ratings. Looks like they are back ordered currently.

I was looking at getting the Toyo Open Country A/T III EV to replace my OEM scorpions, but Discount Tire says they are in a nationwide backorder. I like the more aggressive look of the Toyo's and the Scorpions but I heard the scorpions have soft tread and wear faster.

My R1T is a 22 quad with 46k miles. I bought the truck with 43k miles. Only have had it for 6 months and the rear tires are at 3/32 and when I bought the truck there were at 6/32. Unsure what to get now since the Toyo's aren't able to be ordered.

Recommendations?

Lots and lots of threads and posts regarding tires and available options. Far more productive for you do define what you want. On/Off pavement capability. Ice/Snow performance. Tread longevity and tread life warranty. Efficiency. Appearance. And rank, for yourself, what order of importance are these factors to you. Then start searching the forum and looking at tire manufacturer's product specs.

There is no one magic answer to be served up on a silver platter, because everyone have different needs, opinions and tastes.
