New R1S Tri -- Apple Music Sign-In Has Never Worked -- Need Help

Hi,

I took delivery of my R1S Tri a few weeks ago. At delivery, the Rivian guy helping me set up the car got to the Apple Music app and said "oh, this is a bug... this sign-in won't work no matter what we try"... and I just sort of let it go at the time. Not sure why I didn't press harder or push back.

Since then, I still have no ability to sign in. Video attached. I don't get a QR code, I have never signed in on this car... but I would like to use Apple Music.

Have spoken to many Rivian support people who are stumped.

I was hoping that the new software update (now installed) would fix it... but no luck.

I have tried every reset (hard and soft). Other apps (Spotify, Sirus, Tidal) all work. There's nothing to try on my Apple Music phone/app/account because this Rivian has never known my account or linked even once.

Before I take it in for service (which is somewhat infuriating to have to do for a brand new car for a software issue) -- I would love any ideas and feedback I could get here.

I had similar issues and created a ticket with the service center they did get it to work. When I dropped it off they had the same problems I did with trying to sign in. I think the solution is they had to complete a reset. I had to re-add my phone and sign in like when I first got the truck.

This is a known bug that is fixed in the next software update. If you haven't gotten it yet, you should get it in the next few days

As you can see in the video, I have installed the new update and it has not been fixed, unfortunately.

One of the techs I spoke to mentioned a complete factory reset as a possible solution but he wasn't particularly confident that would fix it -- so I haven't tried it yet (given all the time/work it'll take to set the car back up from scratch). Thanks for the response, @VC_Rivian

I saw that noted in the release notes and was excited it had been addressed. Unfortunately, it didn't work or change or get resolved.

Do you use an Apple or Android phone?

When Rivian first added the apple music feature it took me forever to get it working and it turned out that it was because I don't have an iPhone and Apple considers anyone without an iPhone to not be a real customer.

According to Apple's tech support, my problem was that even though the credentials were working fine on the Apple Music app on my Android phone and on the Apple website via my laptop, my account was not fully activated since the account had never been used on an iPhone. They said the only way to fully activate an Apple account was to have the account added to an iPhone.

Since neither I nor anyone in my family have an iPhone, Apple told me the only way I would be able to get it working was to start knocking on neighbors doors until I found someone with an iPhone who would let me add my account to their phone. They said once the iPhone "validated" my account I would be able to login on the car, and I could remove my account from the neighbors phone and that I would not ever have to do this again.

It was quite awkward knocking on random doors asking if they had an iPhone and if could mess with the settings on it, it did resolve the problem.

I appreciate that. I do (only) have an iPhone… but since I have never been able to even try to sign in with my account credentials, the car wouldn’t have any way of knowing anything about my account regardless.

Had my service call today. Unable to fix this issue. Seems a bit ridiculous. Rivian “wasted” 4 hours driving out to me and back to say “yeah, we know about this issue, but aren’t sure how to fix it.” Also had them replace the charging mat, but that still doesn’t charge my phone. {sigh}

I know this is an older thread, but I wanted to add my experience. Using Safari made the difference. I had previously been using DuckDuckGo, Chrome and Edge.
