Leasing Model 3 until R3X comes out, but now I have an R2 reservation as well.
Is that similar to Canyon Red? Maybe a little bit darker, hence the burnt. Looks nice.

As long as there’s a variety of colors and they don’t charge too much extra I’d be happy.

Yeah, I’m quite bummed out by the sea of gray you see in parking lots and on the roads.

The manufacturers claim it’s what people want, but then they make it more difficult to get other colors and charge hundreds if not thousands of dollars for them.

Paint has gotten really thin on cars too and then they want you to wrap everything in PPF costing you even more money. What a racket.

R1 color tier list

S tier: red, blue, yellow
A tier: forest green

C tier: el cap granite, launch green
D tier: dune beige
F tier: shades of gray

based on history, Rivian will advertise some top tier colors (witness r3x), then focus on selling gray.

If had to guess, I'd say colors like white, "shades of gray", and black, are popular because they never seem to go out of style. What was it Henry Ford said? "You can have any color Model T you want, so long as it's black...".

As such, resale is somewhat stable. If you go w/ all colors that are popular at the moment, then it could affect resale later (possibly turning people off to buying a new one because resale value is low).

Note that this is just a guess, and I have no data to back that up. But, then again, in today's world, what does that matter? :)

I always end up buying a boring color for myself, but I hope they offer at least a couple bold choices.

I saw an Ioniq 5 the other day in this orange that I thought would look great on the RXXX

I almost switched to Launch Green on my R1S in the store...my wife and my guide both said they loved El Cap too much and I agreed.

I wonder if I can talk my wife into Launch Green on her R2...

I like the "burnt orange" BMW has. There's one of these at my work parking lot. Looks nice in person:

Yup, this is my answer. I would LOVE to see this for the R2 with the deep clearcoat as shown here.

Remember that Rivian really focuses on their branding and that is outdoor/adventure which is why we have all the gray colors for different terrian, the blue (water), the green (trees).

It might just be the Virginia Tech Hokie in me hoping, but I think there is a reasonable shot at it because it would be a "sedona" terrian color or a "sunset" color.

I love the bold colors... but honestly, my next truck will be white. The white vehicles I've had in the past have been so much easier to keep clean and don't seem to show light scratches/swirl marks as bad as other colors.

With that said, I do like the El Cap I currently have... it's just more maintenance than I prefer. (darker color)

Unless I have Stealth PPF in my budget... then I'd be really tempted to get whever color I want and not worry about scratches, water spots, etc.

As a parent of a current Hokie, I concur...

Note that I'm also a parent of a 'Poke, aka Oklahoma State (same child, so technically she's a 'Hokie Pokie'...), and a 'Nole, so anything in the orange/burgundy is ok w/ me...

On a totally unrelated note...a good friend of mine bought a wake boat back in the mid 2000s that was 'VT' themed. It was actually used by the wake & ski club for a couple of years (sorry for the small photo):

A darker gray and a darker blue. I'm in the minority here, as I like my cars to blend in and not stick out. You can keep the bright yellow and red and I'll take the shades of gray. I feel like I'm in the silent majority here.

Anything other than the 50 shades of gray.
Preach it brother. Feels like we are stuck in a 1940s movie looking at most parking lots nowadays.

If they can replicate the red and blue shades that Mazda currently has, that would be cool.
Agreed! I love Rivian and get that they want to "blend in with nature", but come on. To me their colors are generally muted and boring. I'd love to see some bright, bold options. Because I was so unimpressed with the choices, I ended up going with Glacier White.

I don't think anyone is advocating Rivian not offer black white and grey as options.

But it is really depressing when there are 5 - 10 shades of gray available for every non-greyscale color available. If everyone drives a gray car, it should be because that's what people actually want rather than because it was the only choice.
