Hi all. After a lot of failed attempts I successfully found a way to cast my IPTV service to the Rivian and I wanted to share the essential trick here to help others. (Sorry, but I won't be posting a full how to.)

Ideally setup would have been as simple as installing an Emby server and plugging in the right m3u playlists. However what took a bit of tinkering is that I was only able to cast to the Rivian unless I setup the server using https SSL certs (which I did via "letsencrypt"). Once I made sure to have my mobile app connect using the secure connection (on Emby default port 8960) everything finally worked.

I can now watch my hdhomerun channels and other IPTV channels from anywhere I have Connect+ service and so can you!

If you have a Plex server (I have lifetime subscription which may be required idk) you can cast any of your Live TV channels (ie hdhomerun) natively without any additional configuration.

I also have a Plex lifetime subscription but it's a poor choice for general IPTV even when paired with Xteve. Emby is substantially better because it natively supports general IPTV whereas Plex only supports HDHomeRun specifically (which Xteve, threadfin, etc spoof to appease Plex).

I also have lifetime Emby subscription and if I was doing it all over -- and IPTV centric -- I'd have just it. For hosting your own collection I'd probably recommend Plex but only because of my familiarity bias.

Okay I primarily use local OTA and not much IPTV.

Agreed. Sunk a ton of time into the Plex IPTV realm and the sunk cost fallicy has me now... Shifted to Stream Master, chose the correct decoder, and it is 1000x better than Xteve or Threadfin.

godfodder0901, I haven't tried steam master, but I will now--I'm still chasing that "optimal setup." Thanks for the tip! Fwiw, I'm very happy with tvimate on AndroidTV but not happy with pure android yet.

I actually have a sweet script to convert xtream codes to m3u. I'll post this to GitHub soon.

risingphoenix, if it makes you feel better, I actually am a scientist (but not for rockets). what we're discussing is technology...from the future.?

That said I use IPTV Smarters on Android, your method seems entirely too complicated.

I went with tvheadend, didn't know about Stream master until now. Any benefits of SM vs tvh?

BTW, a nginx reverse proxy in front of Emby will be sufficient without messing with individual certificates.

Also put me in the camp of having lifetime Plex sub and then realizing the live TV support is inadequate.

It uses tvh for the Shedules Direct integration. The main benefit for me is the failover. If a channel stream fails, it'll fail over to another stream for the same channel.
