Has anyone decided they wanted the crossbars to run parallel to the truck side walls and how did you do that? Thank you!

In what cases is that better? I don’t know of a way todo that unless the bars were designed that way.

Set up a Yakima road shower without the bars going across and impeding easy load and unload of the bed. Maybe there is a simpler solution

In all seriousness I would just mount your crossbars to the roof and do it that way, unless the aero is going to be problematic for range.

Can only add pics next week but I will. If I could have the crossbar run along the top of the bed side (basically flip it 90 degree) it would give wider access to the bed which could come handy while keeping some of the crossbar usefulness

I am not sure it is a good idea. You will be putting all of the load on one bed side instead of spreading the load between the two sides. Absolutely no way to do that with the factory crossbar. You would have to use a 3rd party adapter that would allow you to bolt on something that would let you mount a heavy water tank. Normally the weight of that water tank would be spread out via the crossbars to the 4 mount points.

It is a good point but the weight of the unit (we are talking about only 50-60 lbs) still falls in one side as you always have it on the side. Not a big issue but I would be a little more worried about lateral torsion on the click points while driving through a curve

Because now you do have only two points keeping the tank in place.

Thank you. I thought about it although unloading the tank from the roof when not in use it’s a bit difficult. Water left inside the long tank can suddenly tilt it. Would require two people.

Always empty the water before removing the tank and put vehicle in lowest height. Grab a small ladder and it is an easy one person job. I have a waterport weekender tank and when I used to use the factory crossbars I would use 4 bolts which I could leave on the tank mounts and slide into the slots on the crossbars. Then you just snug up the bolts and you are ready to fill with water. Drain the water when you get home. loosen the bolts slightly and slide out of crossbar slots.
These are the bolts I used.

Interesting…

"Absorbs sunlight to warm water naturally" - that requires you camp when/where it's sunny. :-D

Now I kind of want one on the driver's side bed rail as OP suggested, insulated to stay cold; and another on the passenger's side, plugged in to power to get hot. A couple hoses leading to a gear tunnel kitchen faucet or roof-mounted shower head….
