Yeah once it cures the material is extremely hard, I don’t recall the exact rating but it’s impressive- not soft like you’re implying. Windshield wipers will not degrade the material. I got the exo-shield and yeah I like to challenge bullshit talk that has no merit.
Small picture thought. What you’re not considering is the fact that abrasive debris (dirt, gravel dust, sand, etc.) get trapped and embedded in the soft wiper blades, which are now being dragged across the windshield film. Will/does it happen? Yes, yes it does. I’ve seen it firsthand. It’s also stated on the ExoShield FAQ page and most competent dealers/installers will include this as a disclaimer and/or waiver to a customer when requesting an installation.

Adding supplemental information:

ExoShield has a scratch resistance, hardness rating of 6H, where more premium PPF films (SunTek, XPEL, STEK) have a scratch resistance rating of anywhere between 6H and 9H. It’s no more durable than most PPF products out there.

I’m also not saying the product doesn’t work. It does, and works great for certain applications (track days, off-roading/overlanding). But it’s not impervious to normal daily driving wear and tear damage.

So yes- clean your blades. I won’t Not use my wipers because I’m worried about etching the exoshield.

Speaking realistically, most owners aren’t going to wipe down their wiper blades every day, or every few days. It’s going to get done when either they wash their car, or it gets cleaned by a detailing professional. And, if someone’s taking their car through an automated car wash, that’s not enough to clear the wipers.

I am not implying that it is "soft." I am implying that it is probably more easily abraided than glass. Kind of like the difference between glass spectacles and plastic spectacles.
I am glad to hear that your experience with exo-shield has been good. I might try that after I finally have to have my windshield replaced. I considered it last year, but couldn't find testimonials that gave me the confidence that my money would have been well-spent.

The windshield is at a pretty steep angle
The windshield of my Ford E350, it appears to me, is at an even more steep angle. Took several years and over 50,000 miles before I got a chip in that. On my R1T, in 19 months (31,000 miles) there have been about 4 chips/stars and one crack running 8 inches or so (to the edge).
One factor might be that the E350 stands taller than the R1T does (in Conserve mode, at least). Glass quality is more might be another factor.

I just got a chip in mine even with exposhield. Shoulda got the exoshield insurance but opted out. I certainly don’t wipe down my blades very often. Only when I wash the truck and maybe every other month or so. No adverse effects so far. No etching, marks or anything except for the chip.

If you compare the A pillars of the Ford E350 and the Rivian, the E350 is closer to 90 degrees than the Rivian? I think the height of the E350 likely plays some role.

The Rivian has one of the steepest windshield angles I've seen, although I don't have a lot of experience with trucks, but I have driven probably hundreds of cars over the years since I traleveled a lot for work in a previous life.

Yeah, the E350 windshield is substantially closer to vertical. But, as mentioned, it is tall, especially compared to an R1T in Conserve mode, so maybe not as many stones get up that high (or maybe they have a different angle of impact when they do). I did note that I got a chip in the E350 windshield, just a few months after having it replaced. I don't know if that was just luck of the draw, or if it reflects on the quality of the replacement glass.
