Saw this support article was posted. Rivian now has a method for owners to request a subset of their vehicle data. Probably could be useful to someone in an accident, or needing to prove they weren't in an area.

Anyone get one of these reports yet? Very curious how detailed they get.

Good find. That form may be tied to the items you mentioned as well as providing a way for consumers to determine what Rivian is actually collecting from them and their driving habits.

I read that some car companies are pushing driving data to LexisNexis including hard acceleration events, hard braking events, traveling above the speed limit (I assume correlating instantaneous velocity with road speed limits via GPS), etc. This push of data is different because it is an opt-out system(being pushed by default) compared to running an insurance company’s app on your phone (an opt-in).

Some have reported spikes in their insurance rates.

I did not find that Rivian releases the data to third parties but I may have missed it.

There was a document titled "Rivian Event Data Recorder Consent and Release" that I specifically did not sign at delivery. In looking at it further it says "In some states, Rivian needs your consent before accessing and using the EDR data from your vehicle as described above. In those
states, you provide Rivian your consent by providing your signature below." It unfortunately does not say which states require consent, but my guess is they still remotely access and store everything regardless of whether you sign or not.

I'm definitely interested in what data Rivian comes up with for you and people like you. I signed mine.

In going through their form I don't see any way to specifically request the summary. All options are for the 1 hour window. With the 1 hour requests and how they are worded, they seem to be intentionally vague about whether they are accessing the vehicle directly for the data or using externally stored data. In order to really confirm one way or another I'd have to find a way to block their access for an extended period of time.

I did go ahead an put in a request which will likely set off some red flags but I'll be curious to see how they respond. I selected other and wrote:

"I would like the Vehicle Summary Report (as defined on https://rivian.com/support/article/can-i-access-my-vehicle-data) of the collected data you have externally stored. Specifically this request is only for any data you have already collected from my vehicle and stored somewhere other than the various electronics contained within my vehicle. This request in no way provides a separate or new consent for you to access my vehicle data and I renew my prior rejection of your Rivian Event Data Recorder Consent and Release."

At least for the Vehicle Summary Report it doesn't seem mine is missing any data. This is the most concerning data, but at least it seems like I had some good days the last year (although I guess there is no way to tell if that is braking or acceleration). Those really heavy warning days were long distance travel, but I'm sure this wouldn't look good to my insurance. I wonder if I turn off the AEB altogether if it will still monitor.

Oh boy, contest time?

Appreciate you following up on this. Care to share all of the fields they are reporting as they describe them?
