We bought our R1S last August and I'm getting ready to renew our registration. I knew from @Zoidz that PA was looking at either a fixed annual EV fee or a mileage-based charge, so I thought I'd do a little digging on my own to see where it stood. Here's what I found from July 10 (full article here):
Currently, passenger vehicles cost $45/year for registration, BUT you have the option to renew for two years. I'm definitely going to do that so I won't have to renew next year - a savings of $155 for me next year. If you haven't already had to renew this year I'll encourage you to do the same.
I think paying a "fee" is fair - we should contribute to maintaining the roads and bridges (says the guy who is planning to dodge it next year by pre-paying for 2025). It cracks me up a bit that EV owners pay a "fee" but it's a gasoline/diesel "tax" at the pump. I guess if they called it an "EV Tax" then someone would try to deduct it on their tax returns...
