I'm grandfathered into premium connectivity with Tesla so I'm just about as spoiled as they come.

But $149 per year for hotspot alone seems like a good deal to me. It's the same reason we buy things like Nabucasa, PlexPass, Wikipedia donations; "free" stuff you like, or just stuff you like, should be supported by putting up some cash. This is just another thing that helps Rivian become profitable, I'm in.
Is hotspot and unlimited data not included with most cell plans? Generally curious why the truck hotspot is appealing - assuming this is why?

I wish they would let you play your own music via usb. Then I would not have to stream my music.
One can dream.
VPN to my home network on my phone, launch plexamp, and go. Wish I could use USB too.

I don’t think ive seen it posted anywhere but it pops up in RivianTrackers video from last nights Rivian event. Appears to be $14.99 per month and $149.99 annually. Also bonus, this is the first video i’ve seen with the slate sky interior featured.

Is that the complete list (5 items?)

And they can't connect to your cell phone's hotspot?
For my plan with VZW, it would be an additional $10 per month (per line) to add a hotspot.

Well they could but then the phone always has to be by the car and then you have the battery drain and the weird behavior with having dual sim cards.

Cat hotspot that I pay for, is better.

Ouch! AT&T is included in the unlimited plan...guess that becomes a different cost equation. Didn't realize that was still a thing in 2024.

Where did it say if we will be grandfathered in and not have to pay for hotspot?

if not, when will be cut off and have to pay $15/month for hotspot?

And they can't connect to your cell phone's hotspot?

The plans tend to toggle back and forth. As 5G gets older they will open up hotspot included on cell plans. Then the next generation will come and it is back to limits on data, hotspots, etc for the latest tech and they open it up as it gets older.

When starlink capability is in every handheld phone, they will open up international for free. It's all about what they can get the money for at the time based on competition of course.

For anyone saying "car companies used to give you the connectivity for free" keep in mind that:
1. They weren't giving you this much speed and data for streaming, they were maybe giving you crappy traffic or something
2. It was never free. It was always baked into the cost of the car. This is how you wound up with $2500 nav systems and $500 DVD nav updates each year
