People are moaning about slowing down on new locations but Tesla has many more locations than all other companies put together. They should focus on upgrading v2 to v4 and that’s all third party.
I don't see any evidence that Tesla is upgrading V2 to V4. They haven't even deployed any real V4 yet.

Do you have any concrete reason to believe that the V2s are going to be upgraded? Most speculation I see says that Tesla is more likely to just install new stations rather than upgrading, because upgrading existing V2 stations to V4 would need a huge upgrade to the electrical infrastructure, not just a replacement of the pedestals.

The best thing that can happen to Tesla and the EV industry as a whole is to remove Elon Musk from Tesla. If these stupid and rash decisions lead to that end goal, great.

But I'm not holding my breath. There are few companies with boards made up of this many feckless sycophants.

I like to go to Bizzaro world and see the news over there. Here is a good going theory.

Super friendly group on the Tesla Aztek forum
? Seems like a "masterclass" in how to get the attention of the US Justice Department's anti-monopoly group -think of AT&T long ago, Microsoft in the 90s, and Apple now.
Yeah, that type of behavior is exactly the type of thing that would lead an anti-trust breakup of Tesla (e.g. forced divestiture of the supercharger network).

Maybe at the end of this all it won't really make any difference to our lives or our ability to enjoy road trips in our EVs. However, this is exactly the type of thing that worries me about the transition to "NACS" -- thank goodness it is now officially J3400. The transition largely comes with dependence on Tesla and Elon for a critical part of the product. You just can't cede that control to your competition, and most especially when your competition is run by an impulsive child who spends much of his day ranting on social media about random conspiracy theories, and the rest of his day "running" 2 other companies.

Any Tesla shareholder who votes to move residency to Texas and reinstate his comp package is an idiot. A) Odds are VERY high that he's bluffing when he says he'll leave and B) Him leaving would likely be GOOD for Tesla after the initial short-term stock price drop that would likely happen.

If Tesla hadn't opened up NACS, the inevitable outcome was that eventually (after a long, bitter standards war) CCS would have won by sheer scale; even with Tesla's huge first mover advantage, they'd never outcompete hundreds of millions of CCS vehicles. That would have taken probably a decade and enormous cost to Tesla to fight a losing ground war.

Instead, they open NACS, get to ride the wave of OEM and federal investment in scaling up infrastructure, get a little federal cheddar of their own along the way, all while being able to divest their own team tactically when the balance sheet isn't looking good.
the superior tech won out though, so I’ll take it.

My opinion, Tesla is in trouble until they find a new CEO.
You aren't the first person to predict the demise of Tesla under Elon. People like you are always wrong, Tesla is in a short incubation period before blasting off. You will not even recognize Tesla in three years. But, yeah, hold onto your shorts, LOL!

UPDATE ADDED BY ADMINISTRATOR:

Elon Musk makes first comment after supercharger team layoffs:

"Tesla still plans to grow the Supercharger network, just at a slower pace for new locations and more focus on 100% uptime and expansion of existing locations"

ORIGINAL POST by @Redline :

This is a disaster. Basically they convinced every manufacture to switch to NACS, then pull the rug from underneath. Elmo has to go.

I do worry about 1, the reliability of them going foward...do they basically be come EA? And 2, future rollouts to V4.
SURPRISE!

Tried to tell y'all he's a madman and Tesla dominating the charging standard was going to be a disaster.

Don't worry Musk will back track and start again. He always does this garbage, a terrible leader at this point in time.

Those were different times where Elon actually cared. Now he’s just doing stuff because he can and he wants to show everyone that he’s powerful and popular. It’s pretty sad what he’s become.

You’re either asleep at the wheel, not paying attention, or just ignorant to what’s happening.

Elon is gone.

We can only hope he gets removed from Tesla. And maybe even SpaceX. It’s a bit scary that NASA is trusting him for so much stuff. He can pull the rug out anytime.

Can someone objectively explain if this will have any impact on their charging network or their ability to rollout and install chargers? If not, isn't this just trimming fat? Similar to rivian cutting out guides?
Ok, so take a look at the supercharger network as it stood 24hrs ago. The thing that basically fixed the problem of long distance EV travel, a major hurdle to EV adoption.....

The people that made that happen, and were continuing to make it happen, are gone. Just gone. So hell yeah it's going to affect future rollout. All we can hope is that the repairs teams are still around. But that could be a major issue if they can't get dispatched easily.

I would like to believe most of these positions are white collar tech positions that can be out sourced to cheaper countries, replaced by AI, or just not needed anymore. Superchargers are built in NY Tesla factory I believe. Would be surprised if they laid off the blue collar assemblers of superchargers unless they are outsourcing super charger builds out of country or robots having replaced some staff.

Not sure Tesla needs a team anymore that is responsible for designing chargers or getting governing bodies or manufactures to accept NACS. NACS connector is open to all to use on their vehicles as it is a connector approved by all the governing agencies so no need for employees that dealt with that part of supercharging.
I'm not sure you understand the complexity of getting a supercharger built anywhere, let alone everywhere.....

Seems alarmist. Those people still exist and will hopefully find work elsewhere. There was an update confirming that they'll still be rolling out charging stations and expanding current ones. Tesla also doesn't owe us anything. It's great that we can charge on that network now.
