I think it's the refreshed R1S, not the R2. I know some are convinced Rivian isn't going to update the R1 platform but the design is 5+ years old since they first showed it. I'm sure they've learned a lot since then.

As to why the charging port is in the back, if they switched to 800v, it would be smart to go ahead and rearrange the cabling so it doesn't have to go all the way to the front.

There are some minor improvements to the headlight design and getting rid of the chrome trim has to be on the list.

Maybe they use the R2 reveal to show updates to the R1T as well? Seems a tad too early in the year, but maybe they were sandbagging.

It could also be fake. It could also be R2 and the size is hard to compare given the distortion.
i could see it as an R1 refresh except for one thing. Compared to the background vehicle, the front wheel well fender vertical distance to the hood is smaller on the white vehicle. i don’t think that would change on a refresh, that affects everything in the front end under the skin. If it was perspective distortion, the rear vehicle should look smaller, not larger.

If I had to make a call on this, it seems like a photoshop where they lowered the appearance of the vehicle by taking a section out at the belt line. But I could be wrong, it could be legit….

I see they eliminated the smaller fixed windows on the front and rear doors. Likely to cut down on excess wind noise.

Rearview mirrors extend outward from the A pillar instead of the door. I would think that along with the elimination for the rear door second glass panel would be a lot of tooling changes for a midcycle refresh. Most companies change front/rear facia's and not much in terms of body panels. Also more premium vehicles tend to have door mounted rearview mirrors.

I would think this is more in alignment with an R2 (the teaser has mirrors extending from the door A pillar) than and R1

Cant really comment on the the other distorted parts of the image

Spotted on reddit, maybe it's the refreshed R1S? The headlights and behind the c pillar make it seem legit, but bigger than I thought....

https://www.reddit.com/r/Rivian/s/8XRdm4Djmn

Really bad photo manipulation. Look at the person behind the ligt colored vehicle. Imagine him.her fitting in the vehicle. Nope.

Look at the RAN charger near the while vehicle. It should be parallel with the wall behind the larger charger. Nope.

Look at the two people in the foreground. Perspective is all wrong. It's like they're 4' tall.
This be clickbait, folks.

I think I might call bs on my own post. Look at the people standing, they seem stretched and the parking lines are weird.

The charger looks weird too, too close together
I think it is photoshopped because look at the running board area….arc’d. the back tire looks blurred and the shadow on the side mirror looks stretched

Zero chance they will move the charge port to passenger rear. So this has to be a fake. Think of it logically…why would they design a car that’s incompatible with the pull through RAN? Also, with the move to be Tesla SC compatible, if you are moving the charge port, why make it equally difficult to use V3 And make it impossible to use the trailer stalls at Tesla SC? If this were real, they’d be idiots and i dont think they are idiots. It’s fake.

I don't know if this is real or not but if it is, the charging port on the passenger side rear kind of matches up with the video teaser of the R2 backed into the garage and the Rivian wall charger being mounted on that side of the garage. Now I'm sure they backed it in for the teaser to show the light bar for the reveal but I imagine Rivian knew everything would be scrutinized until March 7 so putting the wall charger there was done with purpose. Maybe I am overthinking it though.

I am voting fake, there are too many identifying unique markers and no one has provided a matching location.

An old Luxury sign. A building the the background that has a super steep ramp to rooftop parking. What's with the empty roof shade structures? There is a ramp with no guardrails. Picture is taken from a high vantage point. One thread shows RAN chargers, the other Tesla chargers.

The rooftop Tesla chargers should be easy to find.

There is some similarity to a parking garage by student housing towers in Normal, but does not match exactly ... Almost like feeding that image with a few others to get this AI hallucination.

Edit: I change my vote

It looks like the rear door includes the white body, but not the second window that the R1S has.

Having looked at many images, I feel like it's hard to fake blurry images. It looks very legit, and any anomalies are likely because of smart phone processing and image sensor difficulties.

Digital cameras with rolling shutters (and unsteady hand) can have that distortion effect. At any rate, it doesn't really matter to speculate either way? The reveal is just around the corner.

This shows them charging on the passenger side. It is possible to have two charge points that this can be useful however passenger side charging makes zero sense. A passenger side charger is plan stupid imo. A charger front and back on the drivers side can be useful.
