Huh? When my cup holders are 'deployed', I can still easily reach things on the lower/center area.
Go try it then…. Been there. Do they move with the drivers seat? Perhaps that’s the difference in view?

Has anyone tried to mount this specific unit below the center HVAC outlet, instead of up on the dash? I realize the mounting bracket is the 'secret sauce' of the kit... but I'm willing to drill and/or use VHB tape below the vent to achieve a more discrete positioning.
Anyone?
Have not tried that, but I am also concerned about dash location and “too many screens”. I purchased this CarPlay unit just prior to my R1T delivery at end of year. What I’d like to try is a custom install on the back of the driver’s sun visor. Maybe too bulky? But might allow the CarPlay screen to be tilted totally out of sight. And there may possibly be enough power to tap from the connection for the visor mirror light. The upside of a test install like this is worse case I have to buy a new driver’s sun visor after I butcher mine trying the custom install. Buy that should be easy enough to allow return to OEM condition and shouldn’t be outrageous cost to replace. But since I only have 500 miles driving my new toy (after a week in the shop fixing delivery transport paint damage), I haven't made this a priority quite yet.

I'm going to give it a whirl... with a 10x4 cutout, just aft of the lower HVAC curvature, here's the positioning:

PXL_20240128_151521362.webp
I think this might work well… if these older eyes can see enough detail on the screen in that position. Seems like a key for me would be the ability to adjust the tilt angle - maybe even being able to tilt completely back, more or less out of sight, when desired (and have it stay that way… so a fair amount of ‘friction’ on the tilt mechanism). Full back tilt ability might also allow camp speaker removal if needed.. Taking away my wife’s default purse storage area…that will be a negotiation. I’m anxious to see how your test goes and I may try the same.

1 billion percent agreement. I have ordered some 'friction' hinges on Amazon which allow rotation, but kind-of 'stay' in place where you leave it. In the ideal world it'll fold backwards below the HVAC 180 degrees when I don't want to use it, and thus appear (almost) invisible.

We'll see how it goes.

Cool! I look forward to your report as that’s my preferred location. I had a cheap smaller Chinese screen there at on time. Mounting will require a custom solution. Following.

RAM mounts would be the way to go for mounting below the registers. I use these in my F350 for RV related screens and they work awesome. You should be able to find anything you need here. They sell them on Amazon too.

I could indeed buy a less expensive AA/CP thing off the interweb, but I'm interested in this specific model and cabling design.

Anyone?
Having to look down for even a split second let alone reaching down to touchscreen IMHO is problematic much like looking down to touch a phone on the charging pad.. I've got mine mounted as prescribed and works a lot better than looking down to my phone.

Someone previously posted a matte (anti-glare) screen protector, but said it wasn't exact for this screen. I found one that is cut to size for our screen, and even has the kicked out section at the bottom.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BTTZ6SJK

Comes in a pack of 2, and the fit is good. It does cut reflections, but at the expense of clarity. If you aren't looking straight on, it has a bit of a haze/blur.

Proof of concept, for my individual use case, looks good.

Shown is a cheap 10.1" version of AA player. When the EV1 version arrives, I'll be able to wire things correctly into the fusebox, instead of the 12v under the dash (which I am currently using).

Friction hinges are 'meh'. I tried three different variations, and the biggest issue was finding one with a narrow profile to minimize the visible gap between the lower dash and smart-screen device. Assuming the EV1 has a similar case design to my 'proof of concept', I may simply opt for a fixed bracket, drilling into the underside of the HVAC housing.

Details to follow.

How does it work at night? When I had my CarPlay screen mounted there the reflection off the rear window was very distracting and made it hard to see out the rear window when reversing.

My current thought is that something like this would work:

same question as asked the other day… how did you affix the display bracket to the dash, without inflicting a permanent scar?

Have not driven at night yet; but it'll be dark when I head home from the office this evening, and I'll see how it goes. On a related note, you look out the rear window? I trust my cameras 99%. The last 1% I'll trust my insurance.

Scar, or no scar, that is the question. For the EV1 unit (when it arrives), I don't anticipate using their dash-pad bracket. I plan to drill two small holes on the underside of the dash. I have between 5-7mm to work with, so it should be a non-issue. In my little beta-test shown above, I have used 3M VHB (automotive grade) tape on the hinge -- because I wasn't sure if the EV1 product placement would be exactly the same as this beta-test unit. Not surprisingly, the VHB is insanely secure*

* All tapes are not the same; my 'real world' involves auto parts, so I'm pretty well versed in the use of these in various interior/exterior locations + their temp ranges, removal, etc.

So far, looks good to me. I'll decide to do the same based on your experience when you get it finalized with the EVSportline unit. Interested to hear your thoughts on the glare effects mentioned by @racekarl as well once installed and tested at night (do you use your rear camera non-stop on the center screen?). Given the hinge options you have tried (or another hinge option you may yet try), do you think you will be able to tilt it full back more or less out of sight (and it will stay there)? Would the 3M VHB tape not work as a permanent mount option? I read that it has a strength of "400 ounces per inch of adhesion". That would be ideal, to me (assuming that it is removable, somehow, if needed). Waiting to hear... Thanks.
