I haven't watched it, but have seen his other videos. I assume it boils down to poor charging curve and lack of overall kWh capacity. His biggest gripes against his Rivian has been charging while towing. Given the initial promises made about 500 miles of range etc with the Cybertruck, One could easily extrapolate a 200-250 mile towing range. Real world unfortunately has proven it to be around 90-160 miles while towing. Pair that with a poor charging curve and whats the point?!

Rivian, as Kyle points out compared to the CT as it is today is more luxurious, and smoother than the CT. While the steer by wire is incredible, it has an unpredictable ratio at times with a lag, especially when sending it through corners.

Watched the video…

As of the time of the video, he said he’d rather have a Cybertruck rather than an R1T, but it’s super close. The reason? Because it looked cool, despite not really caring for its design. ?

On the other hand, when asked if he thought the CT was a dud, his answer was “objectively, yes.”

You pretty much summed up what I saw in the first half.

He loves the Rivian for it’s chameleon-like ability to change personality.

He loves the Cybertruck for … reasons? And he calls out the weirdness of drive-by-wire despite saying he loves it. Perhaps he clarifies this later in the video.

He loves the F150 for the utility.

CT charging apparently is not superb, unless using a v3 Supercharger - kind of expected. Unexpected - but explained well - is the inability to charge it at a CCS at all. Probably a non-issue for someone buying a Tesla, but interesting nonetheless.

Digs on the Rivian for poor thermal management on DCFC. I’ve not DCFC-charged enough to compare to his results, but he knows what he’s doing. He (and other dude) suggest doing side-by-side 20-80% tests on each vehicle.

They both ding the CT for not meeting expectations. It was supposed to be a game-changer, and it’s just … fine? On par with the R1T and Lightning in terms of performance, efficiency, and utility (though I take serious issue with the last part, because that sloped rear is hopeless if you want to mount something to the roof).

Biggest takeaway is that he’d take a RAM with the range extender, primarily because of towing. I’m intrigued by that truck as well, but not going to drop 100k on a Stellantis product. At least with Rivian I knew it was a gamble (one that’s paid off immensely, btw) - whereas Chrysler has had some serious electrification problems, at least on the Jeep side of things.

I think the Ram paired with relange extender is going to be the real "for the masses" show stopper, it should combine the best of both worlds and allow the lamen to be gentley introduced to EV's without having to think about charging curves, etc.

Things the CT has that I'd like to see on the Rivian are
- Nema 14-50 plug
- USB - C power delivery (100 watts would be ideal)
- Stiffer body panels
- A dual motor diff lock
- 800V Architecture

I think Kyle is hedging his bets, and is trying to avoid alienating a big part of his audience, ie the Cybertruck fanboy crowd.

Regarding RAM charger, I think it’ll suit the needs of people who need range, but then again, depending on price, it might be worthwhile just to keep a full ICE truck. We’ll see.

Makes sense. Kyle has never “looked cool”. High school or otherwise.
I don’t think he realizes that driving a CT doesn’t change that. ?

I would very much like to see something besides ripe french cheese for body panels on the Rivian. Please, Rivian - give us rigidity.

He’s probably wowed by the CT. Rightfully so - it’s cool, if that’s the sort of thing you’re into. And some of the tech is really good.

You can see that objectively he’s a RIvian fan, but there’s a non-zero part of him that loves the CT (probably his inner 13 y.o., but that’s ok!).

You can also see that he’s annoyed (rightfully) that towing is a challenge, unless you just add batteries until the EV becomes a singularity from the mass.

Here’s the video that they alluded to, regarding Elon (and whatever marketing team they have) trying to sell you snake oil:

The title really should read “Tesla lied to you”, instead of “Tesla tricked you.”

Jalopnik did a really good takedown on this video.

TL;DW - Could have just said that the CT is genuinely really fast and not exaggerated and lied like they did in the video.

They should’ve ended the video with:

“Next on Engineering Explained… no, the Cybertruck can’t actually tow infinite mass.”

In his previous and very recent comparison video, he clearly stated he preferred the R1T. This is why I think he’s hedging his bets.

Selling one’s soul for clicks doesn’t require one to state a very informed opinion or take a stand.

Besides, not making a point allows endless bloviating.
