Rivian Nation, we've been working on this one for a while! Finally launched today just in time for Black Friday!

1 - plug and play (DIY install), no cutting or splicing or permanent mods!
2 - no tape or scewing mount to dash; patent pending design locks into factory dash!
3 - does not use any USB-C or cig lighter ports! plugs directly into fuse panel above driver feet / under dash
4 - full CarPlay (wireless) connection, run Waze, Google Maps, etc - and play music through Rivian audio

Hope Rivian is reading this and seeing all the pain folks have with no Waze (I still have to map separately because Rivian maps doesn't do traffic/routing as well)..

For me this isn't any different than just using my phone mounted to the dash. I appreciate the effort and I am glad it is available for those who want a large screen solution for the lack of more effective mobile integration with the Rivian, but I will keep using my phone as navigator until the Rivian Infotainment system gets better.

I signed up for an early adopter experience, so I am patient; still the desire is there to have a more mature infotainment system that offers an experience close to CarPlay or Android Auto. For example, they should provide SDKs for key apps and insist on data sharing when in use. That can be negotiated I am sure, and if not, then I will wait.

But they are losing ALL of the data from drivers who are using their phones as their main devices in the car and ignoring Rivian's current tools.

Overall, it looks like a great solution for lots of folks out there who really appreciate CP and AA.

Yes (my opinion). Whenever Aux power is activated, that circuit will energize.
That is my assumption as well. Just wondering if there would be an advantage to hard wiring over using the in dash socket since I have it.

12v socket or fuse connection would result in the same, I think. When the car wakes, 12v AUX/Accessory circuits are all energized. The 12v dash plug ultimately comes from the same fuse box.

Would be great if it could have a simple power switch.
Seems like one could easily be added to the wiring between the fuse box and the carplay display, although I'm not sure how to do that so the install maintains a clean finish.

Agree that it would be nice to have one integrated onto the display itself.

This one, that one and the other one.

Larger screen for CarPlay functions? Easier to see CarPlay apps/maps? Easier touch screen access than fiddling with a smaller phone?

EDIT: I will also enjoy having the "gauge view" up on the main screen while using this one for the maps! Woo-hoo, @EV Sportline!
I actually use my ipad mini as a third screen in the Rivian (4th when you count my phone). My ipad gives me the apple stuff while my phone gives me the android stuff.

Thank you for the reply. Other than the potential size advantage over a phone, my thinking was mostly correct? I think?

I'm getting one - we took our first "long" trip with the R1S over the holiday. It was truly a PITA to have my wife putting the same destination that she sent to the Rivian into Waze and then confirming that the Rivian was making the same choices. We weren't even 20 minutes from home before the first "big" rerouting happened...One of the PennDOT billboards showed the road we were on was closed because of an accident. Waze had us get off the highway immediately at the next (and last option before the accident) exit and the detour cost us about 10 minutes on back roads. The Rivian didn't know about it and, after it finally accepted what we were doing, chose the same way as Waze (but it took about 5 miles before it stopped telling us to turn around).

EV Sportline confirmed (earlier in this thread) that the unit is easily removed and that if we're using it only occasionally we may be better just running power from the center console to the unit (versus plugging it into the fuse box). Around Lancaster PA I don't need Waze or decent traffic updates, but our trips are all to DC, Philly, or NYC where not having traffic is a real handicap.

I also placed an order... you can't trust the wonky Rivian traffic reporting.
On Thanksgiving we went to relatives house, the Rivian nav was indicating a long stretch of heavy traffic ahead. We ignored that as there were hardly any cars on the road. Well, glad we didn't divert because the road all the way to our exit was absolutely traffic free in reality. I have no idea why the Rivian nav was indicating "heavy traffic" ahead... but there was no traffic ahead.

âś… Our screen has a power stitch on top, it can be turned off. That said, my Rivian does strange things when in proximity.

also - for those asking about 'aux in'....the Rivian doesn't have aux in, so our screen isn't going to benefit from aux in. For that matter, when using bluetooth to connect audio to the Rivian using our screen, it goes direct from your phone - bluetooth - direct to the Rivian.

For my current Ottocast CarPlay screen I could not power it from the center console. It didn’t have enough power. It can charge my phone, but it looks like the center console usb-c (at least in my R1S) isn’t powerful enough for the screen. Now mine also has a built-in dash-cam so don’t know if that’s part of the issue. It only worked by using an OBD usb adapter.

My vehicle doesn't have a 12v socket, but if you come off the OBD port for power (which is what I currently am doing for my Road Top/phone charger/external dash cam) then the power is always active. The adapter I got off amazon does have an on/off switch - so it's convenient to turn off, and really doesn't drain much juice if you accidentally leave it on.

I just bought one of these as well though - because where the roadtop is it's always dark, so I tend to always get night mode on the screen, plus really is just hard to use as low as I have it.

Thanks for the info - I think my plan is to install their fuse-box power and tuck the cord out of the way when I don't need the Waze screen. I'm hoping that my wife will get used to the Carplay screen and just move on. She loves the current "clean" design and doesn't want any changes. This addition will be a compromise because even she recognizes that clean design doesn't tell you where the traffic issues are!

They’ve been told about the navigation issues a thousand times. This all rolls right up to RJ and his obsessive desire to “protect the stack”. He knows damn well he could resolve all of this over night but he won’t do it. He’s determined to monetize the infotainment system come hell or high water. I give him high praise for the vision and hard work it takes to start a car company from scratch. But IMO he has a huge blind spot when it comes to this area.

Is this a "sleep" or "power off" switch? I.e., if turned off, will it wake back up only after you power it on again with the switch, or will it automatically power on when the car wakes up (either due to key proximity or from someone operning the door)?
