Getting a 25% conversion rate would be a MASSIVE success. My guess is less than 10% convert
I agree. My estimate is the same - less than 10% conversion rate. If that occurs, I may get mine by this time next year, as my reservation number is about 960,000.

14 pages about a very ugly truck with no critical specs like price,
kwh, payload, range, towing capacity & (rear seat headroom) in Rivian forum that RJ is not worried about?
I am surprised the initial buyers are willing to take delivery without these basic unknown quantities.

I would estimate somewhere between 10-20% including resellers. It would be interesting to know what the R1 conversion rate was.
My spouse said she would not accompany me in the CT & that it wouldn't be parked in the driveway amongst other things. I highly doubt it will meet my requirements anyway.

Well, we really don't know the take rate at this point because even the buyers at the head of line don't know the price yet!

If this thing comes in at $90K... probably north of 95% of those "initial buyers" will pass on the purchase. With no journalist reviews, no YT reviews... literally no real world reviews of the production CT available, the early buyers are taking a gigantic leap of faith (or 99% of them are planning on flipping it for $$$ profit and they couldn't care less if it's a total disaster out of the gate) being early buyers.

Did you ask your wife if she would consider you getting a girlfriend?

You know who is taking a huge leap of faith? Those who are buying a Rivian. The future of Rivian is not at all clear at this point.

Your statement about the leap of faith with the Cybertruck would have been a valid statement in 2018. By now anyone with a modicum of common sense realizes that Tesla has made it and is here to stay.

If they release a lemon, they will make it right to their customers. No way in hell such a high-profile vehicle would become an albatross around the neck of the early adopters. This would be really bad PR at the wrong time for Tesla. Out of all EV manufacturers today, the safest bet is to go with Tesla for any vehicle.

All of this notwithstanding, I think the “take” rate will be under 10%.

Yes, Musk is a master of PR and never makes unwise decisions. Failure is impossible.

It is possible to have failed ideas. Think of the Chevrolet SSR back in the early 2000s. Lost GM a chunk of cash selling maybe 1/3 of the expected run when they pulled the plug.

Possibly the least interesting vehicle that they have launched imo. Interest rates and lower trade-in values will drop the pool of people able to complete orders. I see a ton of release candidates on the road here and the only thing that amazes me is the fact such a large vehicle will not have a 360 camera.

I think what made is most interesting is that they ventured into the truck market which is the cash cow for the big three. It is the volume that Tesla makes vehicles that is the real threat. Rivian makes some great vehicles but the volume is small. IMO, this threat *really* pushed the big three to bump up their timelines.

It could absolutely be a failed idea, but I don't think the buyers would be left holding the bag.

And now let's talk about how interest rates and lower trade-in values drop the pool of people able to complete Rivian orders. Rivian has been on my back for two weeks now (including sending me an email every other day and even calling me) to tell me to lock my reservation and get the R1S DM Max Pack in 1-4 months. My reservation is July 2022. You tell me what's going on.
