Is anyone planning to cancel their Manual tonneau cover order, and wait for the power solution?

I am debating on cancelling the manual tonneau cover since I paid the current price for it and the issues people have had. I would think the powered tonneau cover will be substantially more money and might take a long time before it’s available for purchase.

I am returning my manual tonneau. This is my second one, both broke within the first couple of uses. The release mechanism is so flimsy, it should be pulled as an option and redesigned. I am either going after market or will wait for the powered option. I just wish they would come out and say whether we can retrofit the powered option.

Reviving this thread as I received my manual tonneau a year after my r1t delivery and it broke within the 2nd removal. I am having a back and forth with the support team and they are offering me a return to wait for the automatic retrofit, but I am not sure that they know if it will actually be available. The manual tonneau is poorly built, as the release pull has a metal loop that is held by a plastic bracket that snaps with regular torque. I am quite disappointed in this but I reserved the car 3 years ago with an automatic tonneau in mind.

Rivian's track record with both the powered and manual tonneau covers is not very good. We think that we will go with an aftermarket tonneau from a company that knows how to make a usable tonneau cover.

I'm thinking about it but it depends on the price. I also have a pre-order price on my manual tonneau cover, it's not much different, but others concerns with the longevity of even the manual cover is concerning and makes me wonder if THAT is even worth the price.

Anyone hear any rumblings about whether Rivian will honor pre-march '22 pricing for the PTC when it becomes available? I've been trying to get an answer from customer service on this but have got nowhere. I'm guessing if they honor the original price, they'll do so only for vehicles not yet delivered. Anyone who has already purchased without a cover will need to pay full price (whatever that turns out to be).... I sure wish Rivian would provide an update on this. The PTC is really important to my use case, so I'm not sure I can justify finalizing my order (even though I've got the email to do so) until I know the situation.

Let us know which one you go with. I didn't find a very wide variety of options when searching last fall.

This is interesting. It would be the same approach with the spare tire. I hope they go this route. I originally ordered the truck with the automatic tonneau, and Rivian removed it from the order due to the issues. I then added the manual tonneau cover but decided to cancel the order based on the feedback from others. I will evaluate the retrofit option for the automatic tonneau if it becomes available. I've yet to receive a refund; it's been several months since I canceled. I asked if they could hold the amount towards a credit for the retrofit., but they insisted on sending back a check. I'm in no rush, so I understand it may take another year or more.

Considering it took a year to get you what should have been a pretty simple accessory (planks that you manually slide) I wouldn't wait for a retrofit (a significantly more complex add on). My bet is there will be zero retrofits (for those that didn't already have a powered cover) actually done on any R1T.

My manual cover has been holding up. I for sure baby it. I put forward pressure on the cover before pulling the tab, that way there is no added resistance toward you on the pins.

They've already started retrofits on customer R1T's that were delivered with the PTC, although very slowly and in batches, likely organized by VIN and location based on forum reports. Who knows when and if retrofits to trucks without a cover will begin. The PTC will first need to show up in the gear shop, which we've been told would be "early 2024". But that's Rivian time, so could be 2025, or maybe never.

We have decided to go with the Lomax by Agricover. All their reviews are very good. They are just about water tight. They have several different exterior finishes. Their locking mechanisms appear to be very well made. They are made in Jamestown, North Dakota. They currently have a free shipping offer. We are just about ready to order. We are trying to make a final decision of whether to go with one of the standard models at about $1,100 or go for the carbon fiber version at $2,100. Even the carbon fiber model is only $300 more than the somewhat ill-fated Rivian manual tonneau cover.

There are at least two threads on the Lomax covers here on Rivian Forums. You may want to review those also. There are also some installation videos on the Lomax tonneau covers that are worth looking at.

my optimistic side says they will retrofit existing vehicles with the PTC, it will be at the pre-price hike for those pre-price hike folks, but we will need to pay for the labor (which i would be fine with) and it'll happen mid-year.

my gut says the retrofit for existing vehicles is going to be a no-go in 2024 (and possibly no-go ever) because they can't get the supply chain for the tonneaus figured out, the SCs are already overwhelmed with existing PTC updates let alone regular service needs, and by the time they get through those and figure out supply chain, they may bring it back as an option to new vehicles which they can get higher margins on. and thats assuming v2 of the PTC works well and is durable.

in other words - go find that alternative manual tonneau

How is the Interrobang tonneau cover on keeping water out? How much gets in in heavy rains?
