Truckstops Service Centers run 24/7 I think with these Rivian Service Centers shutting down at 5pm is a huge mistake! With frustrated customers dropping off their vehicles from multiple different states like in my case for seemingly minor issues and having to leave them for weeks at a time. Maybe Rivian needs to start a school to train more technicians ? I don’t know what the answer is but I do know that shutting down at 5pm is not.

There are a lot more diesel mechanics than there are EV mechanics. Rivian doesn't run multiple shifts because there aren't enough people to staff them. This is not just a problem in this industry it's a problem across the skilled trades.

I know at least in Costa Mesa they did get a provisional permit for 24/7 service at least according to reports when they first announced the location. So certainly was part of the plan at one point.

In the Phoenix area, I know some techs are working graveyard shifts - but on Amazon EDV’s so they can run their delivery routes the next day.

I know they are trying ? Im rooting for them I just know with increased production is going to create an even bigger bottleneck at the already extremely busy service sector.

I know the Bellevue SC has a 2nd shift. The new location was supposed to be open by now however still has permitting issues. Apparently the location straddles 2 permitting jurisdictions. Can't find an active permit on the Seattle SDCI site.

I am genuinely curious on this....

I wonder if Rivian has multiple levels or specialties of techs. It seems many issues that I read of on internet are not BEV specific. Suspension noise, panel alignment, latches, rattles, upcomming tonneau replacements....all would be irrelevant if it was a BEV tech or a diesel tech. Meaning we should see certain tasks be easier to fast track.

And if hiring techs is an insurmountable task for Rivian, I do honestly wonder if that will be the ultimate bottleneck that costs the company success.

It seems to me that they should be able to find techs that are flat rate at a dealership and feel they aren't being fairly compensated to jump ship to a hourly position with Rivian, so I wonder what the barrier is. It could be they fear the long term viability of Rivian...not sure.

I know that at Costa Mesa someone was working on our R1S over night. I had a couple notifications on our app that showed the frunk, liftgate and windows opening and closing. I also upped the charging percentage once from 70% to 85% and it was physically disconnected at 11pm at 77%... ?

Most us states don't need any special permit.

You do however need to find someone willing to work these hours. You can pay more, but it's not traditional in the automotive tech industry.

A lot of the problems that owners are bringing their cars in for are not EV-specific to the battery or drivetrain. They are issues related to parts and components that are in any other ICE vehicle.

Air suspension? ICE cars have them.
Panels, doors, paint? ICE cars have them.
Windshield, glass roof? ICE cars have them.
Etc.

But is Rivian going to hire a mechanic that doesn't know how to work on EVs? That's not a great move.

Just got my truck back from the Bellevue SC last week. I was surprised to see Gear Guard videos recorded around the clock. Activity all throughout the night, and the lights never went out.

Why not??

Not everyone at the shop needs to know how to work on an electric battery or drivetrain. To hire only those with EV powertrain experience would be a foolish move, especially when most issues aren’t related to the powertrain.

Not sure if this is a good thing or not.

This would mean these service centers are still THAT backlogged even with an around-the-clock work hours.
