Has anyone gone offroad and fitted a dune flag? It's required in some areas but not in other, I was curious how you attached it and what you purchased.

Thanks!

Suction cup mount. They can move around a bit unfortunately.

I was guessing that's the best option. Do you have a link to the one you used? I also though perhaps something that would mount to the front tow hooks or hitch/receiver

I think it's this one? https://386fab.com/multi-mount-1-4-1-2-suction-cup-flag-mount/

A friend bought it for me because it's what he uses. I was going to make something to mount up to the front tow hooks, but was worried it could end up getting in the way or damaged if we had to use them for recovery.

I put together a solution which attaches to the crossbars if you’re interested… but I’ll have to wait until I get home to show a picture of it.

So this entire setup is less than $45 before shipping and tax. I’m sure others could design something better, but I couldn’t beat this setup for the effort.

This is what holds it together:
https://www.acehardware.com/departments/hardware/angles-braces-and-brackets/braces/5005831

I’m sure others could build something a little more elegant or even just drill holes into a similarly sized piece of wood, but for walking down the aisles of Ace Hardware and finding something that worked, with no effort, this works great. You attach a t-bolt into one hole that goes into the track on the crossbar, and the pole quick release goes in the other hole. I put a little bit of felt on the bottom to protect against metal on metal crossbar scratches.

T-bolt:

Thanks to @Riviot and @jjswan33 at this post https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/...indings-what-are-you-using.14193/#post-318167 for my t-bolt education.

Quick-Release for pole:
https://dunerats.net/collections/qu...r-5-16-or-1-4-whip-pole?variant=7204085235761

Make sure to chose either 5/16 or 1/4 depending upon the size of the pole. I went 5/16. This quick release is also available on Amazon and other places.

Pole:
https://dunerats.net/collections/2-...whip-pole-mounting-bolt-available-in-4-colors

I like the 2 piece pole because it is easier to store two 4’ poles over one 6’ pole. Dunerats charges a lot to ship this because of the size of the box, but they automatically refund part of that shipping price.

Flag:
https://dunerats.net/collections/fl...stom-atv-utv-mc-safety-whip-flag-mx-freestyle

I wanted as plain of a flag as possible. Whip flags have a very political tilt and there are tons of options out there but this is the most simple solution I could find.

Here are a few pictures of the setup. Please don’t judge the dirtiness of the truck too harshly.

That's a cool setup on the rack, unfortunately the dunes in MI require mounting to the front of the vehicle.

I used the Gorilla Whips mount with some rubber to wrap around the tow hook. I think there are some better options out there now as this didn't fit very well.

I wouldn't recommend my setup as I bought two fiberglass rods, epoxied them together with some bolts and a bit of light welding so I could break it down and store it in the gear tunnel. But wasn't worth the effort. Does seem like there might be a market for that style more robust whip though. All the others I found were pretty thin and made for ATVs.

I bought this at badlands off-road park in Indiana. I think window mount is cheap and easy. My son was worried it might damage window lining but it didn’t leave any marks or damage.

For those without cross bars I designed this very simple plate that makes use of the Mars Adventure Accessory Port Adapter (Rivian Accessory Port Adapter | Mars Adventure Gear) and the Tusk Quick Release flag pole holder.

I initially 3D printed a plate but decided to go with aluminum and used the 3D print as a template for the holes. I did notice that there was about a 2mm gap from the top of the adapter to a level plate so I just used two washers under each hole. Very simple to make and so far very sturdy.
