Most of the time having the hotspot active or using data prevents the phone from making/receiving voice calls.
Actually that is not the case any longer. Basically all 4G LTE networks support VoLTE. As long as VoLTE is not disabled on your handset you are fine to make calls and surf. I do it all the time.

Used to be that way years ago with 3G but not the case any longer. .

The promise of CarPlay/Android Auto is:
- Keep your most important/personal/private data local to your phone
- Allow you to treat a big screen in your car as a projection of your phone, customized how you see fit
- Allow apps from your phone's App Store to be introduced and updated as you see fit

Rivian's in-car unit will *NEVER* be an app platform, and I will NEVER trust my Amazon account (and therefore any Alexa instance) to have access to the same data I keep on my phone.

It is great that the in-car unit can be OTA updated as Rivian sees fit. I love the improvements that Tesla has implemented since we bought the car, for example.

But they will by definition never reach parity with the experience I have with CarPlay today. And that majorly bums me out.

CarPlay is actually the one single feature which has us still discussing the F150 Lightning as an option :(

Depends on the carrier. I believe AT&T may support it, but I don't think Verizon does. I haven't tested in a few years, but it didn't work last time I tried.

Unfortunately, this is one of the very few things that would be a total deal-breaker for me for 2 reasons:
  • I'm 6'5" and don't fit well in the back of my current vehicle (jeep grand cherokee).
  • I'm one of the many on this forum that will have 3 kids to squeeze into the back. A rear-facing infant seat in a tight back seat means whoever is in the passenger seat has virtually no legroom.
Before I go berserk, I realize every car manufacturer measures this differently. So apples to apples comparisons aren't possible.

I ABSOLUTELY will need a test drive before committing. As I am a Max pack res holder, not sure when that may happen...
You should be able to test drive at the tour events they have beginning this summer as a reservation holder, LE or not.

Yes, but priority will be given towards LE.

I'm trying to imagine why I'd ever need a place to put the key. Wouldn't it always be in a pocket or purse?
Valet. I once got my car back from valet and headed for the highway. After I started up the entrance ramp I saw that the valet had rested my keyfob on the driver's side windshield wiper. On the OUTSIDE. I let out a Homer Simpson yelp and - carefully - pulled over to the shoulder to retrieve my key.

I wear loose fitting exercise pants most of time because of medical reasons so it tends to fall out of my pocket easily so I just put my keys in cup holder most of the time

Directly from the site

" Due to anticipated demand, we will prioritize preorder holders for our drive experiences. Look for more details in advance, including exact launch dates, our Covid-19 protocols and how we’ll handle reservations."

So anyone with a preorder new or old will be able to test drive.
