It is. Part of cost saving measures to reduce "unreasonable distances for service visits". I've had delivery estimates each round (my last one was June-July 2023...), but this time I didn't get one, and customer service said I'm now too far away. (My address have changed).

I was told it was specifically related to service visits. I asked if I could take delivery at the Portland service center and they said "no, you'll still be like a 10-hour round trip for a flat bed of you ever needed service"...
I know someone down on the Southern Oregon coast with an R1S reservation that has a guide and delivery date of Nov 2023 and there has been no mention about service issues due to proximity to Portland.

This would work, but I imagine service will be a bit tough, since you will need to get the vehicle either to Portland yourself, or to someone's house within the mobile service area. This would be until they get a mobile service tech based in Southern Oregon, or open a Service Center thats closer.

Unless Rivian has done any mobile servicing down in the Medford/Grants Pass/Ashland area?
They have a mobile service van (not a Rivian EDV!) based in Bend, and they came to my home to do the taillight upgrade and install a new charging pad. Every bit of the experience could not have been better.

Thats great they'll come down from Bend! Yeah unfortunately they don't send the EDVs down from Portland to Eugene either...

So seems like maybe they're not wanting to get a lot of deliveries in the area until they have a more locally based Mobile tech?

I saw someone comment that the Rivian website said their ZIP is not eligible for delivery; too far away. This is the first I've heard of this tool on the site (sorry if I'm late to the party). But for me, if I'm logged in and try to configure a NEW R1T, I'm asked what my ZIP code is. I'm then either told I'm too far away, or allowed to proceed.

In order to try multiple zips after putting in a successful one, you need to clear your cache and cookies for rivian.com and try again.

After some trial and error, I have confirmed that a zip code precisely 200.97 miles away from the nearest service center is allowed.

ZIP 97497 → Rivian Service Center, 2620 SW 1st Ave, Portland, OR 97201

However using the next ZIP code to the south (209 miles), delivery is not eligible.

ZIP 97526 → Rivian Service Center, 2620 SW 1st Ave, Portland, OR 97201

Just know for even minor issues you will have to leave you vehicle at the Rivian service center for around 3 weeks and would have to be happy driving a gasoline truck rental paid by rivian but out of pocket spent on fuel. Around 500$ in expenses atleast making round trip twice to get even a recall fixed or something else. Things most of us Rivian buyers failed to think about ahead of time. ?

Don't doubt that; there'll always be exceptions to the rule. I assume since your friend has a guide that they're not going to just back out of the delivery process for this new rule.

But what we know for certain is that this 200 mile radius is limiting the placement of new orders, and it's been suggested by their customer service that this limitation is being applied when possible for existing pre-orderers.

This makes sense as it appears they are also using that in NC / SC to justify the delay in shipments of orders placed prior to price increase too. I live in south Charlotte, NC, and I'm 235 miles from service center in Atlanta, and a bit further from the one in Richmond. i know well about the Atlanta one since I just got back from my 10 hour round trip to pick up my R1T from Atlanta Service Center after having done a 10 hour roundtrip in one day two weeks prior to drop it off. I think their concern about how far outside service centers relates not only to how far they want to deliver, but how far they may have to go in order to service a vehicle. After spending two 10 hour drive days to get serviced, i completely understand! As a side note, both NC and SC prohibit service centers for those companies who do not have a dealership model. Of course Tesla got in before that law was pushed by dealership lobbyists, and now we can't 1) get our EVs delivered, and 2) can't travel less than 200+ miles to get them serviced! I got my R1T primarily because I was a Dec 2018 reservation holder, but the R1S reservation i did not make until in 2022.

Thanks for putting the map together. It makes perfect sense!
I’m on the NW side of Charlotte but my
delivery address is Apex, NC which is just inside the radius for Richmond. My latest delivery update is Oct-Nov of this year. ??‍♂

Genius move RJ! Ignoring a top 15 metropolitan area (Charlotte) while triple overlapping other smaller metro areas. No wonder your stock is in the 5h1tter. How about a little honesty next time?

BACKSTORY: Been on the wait list for 3 years now and I still have no delivery date. I used to be one of this company's biggest supporter. I grew up in Illinois. Now this is purely a flip for me. I'll flip the vehicle once the tax credit is locked in and the stock as soon as it sniffs $30 a share. I'll look to buy the new IH Scout from VW.
