Well, sort of...

I didn't say test drive a Lucid.

Yes... Lucid has vehicles on display in studios around the country.

You can look at the cars and see what they look like in person.

Are ready to be really shocked? You can even see the interior... Unlike Rivian which seems to go to great lengths to keep the interior from being photographed.
Yes. What’s up with that. Why all the secrecy?

Many (all?) of the vehicles running around for testing are not production spec.
Look at the reaction/debate to the door pockets. The internets will nit-pick every nuance, and showing anything different than what actually will be produced serves no practical purpose.
Could they have decided on a design, built it on the prototypes and stuck with it thru production? Of course.
Or - They could test their design in real world conditions and make modifications based on feedback. Helps avoid things like the Tesla cupholder design flaw.

I don't expect them to operate exactly like any other company - they are going to do things in their own way. That is what got them to the product we are so anxious to see and own with things like the gear tunnel. I hope they carry on doing what they need to do in order to deliver the product that matches their vision.

Zero? I reserved only in April 2021 and I think I’ve received at least 3 or 4 emails from them with updates about where they’re at and what’s to come.

It’s super strange to me how people take “they haven’t told me what I want to hear yet” to mean “they’ve had absolutely ZERO customer communication”. Wild how people redefine the meaning of “zero” here haha.

While I would not say zero, I would say the information we do receive is so infrequent and minimal that it feels useless. I have been a reservation holder since February 2019 and from your post I see that you recently reserved. There are many things that we have been promised that have yet to come to fruition. I won’t list them all but just to name a few
1) not even basic confirmed details of the interior 2-6 weeks from launch (I’m not speaking of interior color)
2) no confirmation of Launch Green color
3) no confirmation of test drives 2-6 weeks from launch
4) no contacts from guides with 9 days left on the calendar month
5) no idea how long of a wait or where you fall in line or a working theory on how the process will work.

This is by no way meant to be comprehensive, but basic information that a reasonable consumer would expect when making a large purchase. So when posters who have waited 2+ years for this vehicle, who have been patient and want to believe in this company say zero information It comes from a different point of view. I along with many share the same frustrations.

btw... The exterior information received on the 7th was a blessing and gladly received, information of that magnitude has been few and far between.

Just curious... What about the pandemic prevented Rivian from letting us see the vehicles up close in person? Lucid has had vehicles on display for months. Did the pandemic somehow impact Rivian in ways it didn't affect other companies?
If Rivian put their head down and didn't socialize as much as people wanted but they actually HIT their deadline, then that's the superior strategy, in my book.

Yea, Lucid may have let you "see" a car... one that you can't buy, and they keep missing deadlines.

It only becomes a problem if they miss the deadline.

I completely agree. I am also more concerned with them building a quality product than telling me about a product they’ll build… only to have parts fall off or some other gaffe.

Rivian did miss their deadline. The vehicles were planned for delivery in 2020.

So what Rivian customers got is missed deadlines, lack of ability to see the vehicles, minimal info release, a special edition color that exists only on a computer screen, and a lot of messages saying more info "soon" all because "pandemic."

It's amazing that Rivian gets away with using the pandemic as an excuse when another new EV startup managed to put vehicles in showrooms during the same pandemic.

Here is an example of what communication from an EV startup looks like.

This is from a company that isn't even scheduled to deliver vehicles until late 2022.

Amazon’s deposit and order is priority number one for Rivian. There are serious issues if Rivian can do nothing but watch their consumer market share potential dwindle with each passing day.

I feel for you guys, as someone who only reserved a few weeks ago I can't imagine what some of you are feeling in terms of anticipation and doubts. But don't forget they are probably having a hard time hiring people just like every other company out there.

And don't compare Rivian to Lucid. Lucid has all the hallmarks of Nikola. Sure they may have cars in a studio that you can look at, but nobody is driving those cars. There have been zero Lucid test drives. I think we have only seen 1 working car being driven by the CEO. And we always see him every time the stock price takes a dip.

I was comfortable putting down a deposit on Rivian because they have many vehicles on the road and even some independent test drives, hello Rebelle Rally.

You're almost there guys and gals. Hang in there. I'm anxiously awaiting you're reviews

Fortunately, I am not an LE holder, but if I were these would be my biggest concerns:

1) We are now supposedly just 4 weeks from initial deliveries and not one person has had a test drive (that we know of)
2) So far there is no indication that a single showroom or service center has been completed and is ready to open
3) The secrecy about details is extremely annoying, such as having a publicly available video of the UI, at this point design changes cannot be made
4) No EPA or crash test ratings available

Is it possible they have built hundreds of trucks already?

As a LE Holder my thoughts are

1. I think that's the plan, for those who want a vehicle with out a drive they can use the 7-day refund policy.

2. Correct, personally not a big deal as its a problem 10,000 miles or whenever the first "service" occurs which shouldn't be much in general in terms of maintenance.

3. Very Annoying! Hopefully next week ?. I need a lot of details before I fully commit even though I'm a Fan based off of what I have seen online.

4. Yup. I need at minimum EPA as most of the time crash ratings are published after.

They mentioned in an update in April I believe that they had hundreds of vehicles out and about driving around doing proving tests for various systems etc to ensure they delivered a quality product to us.

The beauty of Fisker is that they are using proven manufacturers to build their vehicles, like Magna. They already have given a firm start of production date as well. Lucid and Rivian are both going to have tremendous growing pains ramping up. Starting to wonder if my Fisker Ocean is going to get here sooner than my R1T.
