" After all, this truck weighs more than 8,000 pounds. "

It appears the Motor Trend truck has gained weight.

What is the quickest truck then? It doesn't say. At the bottom of the page it has an article indicating the R1T is the quickest. So which is it? Are they talking about the Hummer?

Edit: Ah yes, found it. Hummer beat their record by .1s. Car and Driver's test shows a slower Hummer at 3.3s.

I struggled to get a solid launch in the Hummer where it wasn't spinning the tires. GM's electronic traction control was pretty awful with the pulse-on-off control that was similar to how my Bolt EV drove. Rivian's traction control is miles better. The Hummer *might* hit harder if it actually hooks but it seemed like a big if most of the time.

Tires is obviously the big difference here. With the sport tires and on normal roads, I can launch the R1T pretty much every time and have a good launch. Motortrend has the AT tires on their truck, which don't seem like they would be as reliable for launching just as the Hummer wasn't.

I don't really consider the Hummer quicker even if it beat the Rivian by .1 second. Launching a Hummer is a whole production of getting into WTF mode and whatnot. I can be driving in sport mode and hit my launch at any stop light I want without pressing any special sequence of buttons or waiting for the truck to get ready. That power is available all the time in the Rivian which makes it much more fun.

Quick and fast are not the same thing in my view.

Quick = acceleration
Fast = top speed

I mean technically you can just drive around in WTF mode the whole time as well. It just doesn't stay in it through a power cycle and you lose access to more information on the driver's display. The ED1's biggest problem is no sway bar/roll control at all.

Rivian needs to kick that limiter up to at least 130, like in sport mode which is when vehicle is lowered.....

I'm sure there are reasons they don't, such as battery or inverter loads, heating issues, etc. But one we probably don't think about is tire rating. The tires aren't rated for that fast.

And with the excessive wear and tear that the tires are already showing due to the weight, exceeding the tire rating is a recipe for disaster and lawsuits. Until they fix the tire issue, even if it can go faster, it won't be.
