If you just go for the base Max pack and nothing else then pre-March order holders seem to be getting a 600 hp, 400 mile R1T for less than $70K ($69.5K) after tax credit -

Makes me wonder if I should downgrade my LG quad motor R1T...

Thanks for the chart.

Yeah there are some intriguing choices, especially with the range issue. If I switch from the 22" dark wheels back to the 21's, I get another 55 Kilometers more range and save $5 K CAD, for 644 kms range.

I mean I like the 22's but I wanted the maxpack for range

Thanks for posting that. I was compiling the same information but you presented it very succinctly and clearly.

Another way to look at this:

- Dual motor adds 17 to 26 miles of rated range over Quad Motor
- Max pack adds 35 to 50 miles of rated range across Dual Motor tire configurations
- Dual motor + Max Pack adds 57 to 72 miles over Quad Motor Large Pack

- The following have roughly equal approximate 330 miles of range:

Dual motor + Max Pack + 20" AT @ $78,800 base (pre 3/1 pricing)
Quad Motor + Large Pack + 21" Road @ $71,500 base (pre 3/1 pricing)

Is it just me, or is that essentially $7300 for
- off road tires
- arguably - at least in some situations - worse off-road capability with dual vs. quad motors (although the road tires might make this a push)
- 1.5 seconds slower 0 to 60 acceleration

It looks weird on the updated configurator that the Quad Motor is $1000 less than the Performance Dual, since the former is marketed as: "our most capable system. It features one motor for each wheel for the highest levels of performance, capability and control both on-road and off."

It's like pay $1000 more for about 20 miles more range but less horsepower, slower acceleration, and less off-road capability. You also get the option to buy a bigger battery with more weight and possibly less payload capacity, but up to 72 miles of additional range for another $7000.

This is pre-3/1 pricing BTW.

That said, I have to admit I'm still considering this. For me, quad motor is overkill for anything I plan on doing with with truck. 4.5 seconds or less of acceleration is fine with me, too. I've only launched my current quad motor R1T once and slammed the accelerator at a light (without a formal launch) a handful of times. 400 miles of range is quite appealing to me, but I just wish the range with the 20" AT's was at least 350 miles.

Ah well, I'll obsess over this for the next few days (and drive my wife nuts).

How do you figure that? If I view the website signed in or via an incognito page not signed in I see a $7k price difference both times. I’ve also already received my truck so pre/post isn’t a thing for me anymore.
Depends on when you ordered. Guessing if you are only seeing a $7k difference in the visualizer but don't have another pre-March1 reservation that they have a bug.

I thought it was $7k for max for preorder holders because they save on going down from quad to dual motors. It is still $10k for new orders for 30KW extra (which at a $150 per KW/hr) comes to $4500 (pack smaller than originally envisaged). So the max pack has a good margin on it for Rivian.

I’m interested to see whether pre-March 1 R1S preorder holders will eventually be offered a specially priced dual/max option too. I imagine there are plenty of folks who intend to road-trip in their SUV fairly regularly who might “settle” for 600hp and 21” wheels to approach 400 miles of range —- if the price is right.

Visualizer now appears to not allow purchase of 20"s without all terrain upgrade. Seems odd.
Reducing options is almost always a cost-cutting measure.

Waited two years to discover that max pack adds 35 miles of range. Rivian sucks.
It’s more than 35 when comparing similar wheel/tire configurations, but yeah, I was also hoping for more.

They are still range estimates and there’s a lot yet to be known about the dual motor performance and capability, but like others have said, you don’t gain much for several thousand more. Makes me want to forget it and just go ICE.

My post March order still can't be configured so they are trying to get rid of all of the initial pre orders first. That and I think they will ultimately raise prices again when they do allow the rest of us to lock in a configuration.

Depending on how this goes, I may just pass on the second order and wait to see how things shake out for R2.

It is definitely underwhelming. And still no info about charging. I think it’s a safe assumption this would not be 800v so how long does it take to charge the bigger battery? It’s still entirely possible it makes more sense time-wise to go with the smaller battery and make more stops.
