Has anyone else looked into putting a 3rd party rack on their R1T? I am looking to transport an inflated and framed raft. I would like to keep it fairly level running from the length of the truck. I was thinking about putting my rivian cross bars on the roof and getting a Thule Xporter Pro or other competing adjustable rack to hopefully be about equal height. Then i can slide the raft on top, strap it and roll.
The xporter looks to attach in the tonneau cover lane, but that was just a cursory glance.

Anyone have any authoritative knowledge?

There is no official support for a cab height bed rack but if you search there are a few threads where people have either made one or made something bought on Amazon work. Also the Optima SEMA build has a Rhino rack Overland Ruff Rack offering of some kind that isn't commercially available (at least yet).

If you want something official I have not seen any announcement. Yakima specifically wasn't able to provide Rivian that option.

Edit: Corrected the vendor for the rack.

Thanks. If i had more forethought, i would've looked first and asked second. I see some promising options forthcoming.

I, too, am anxiously awaiting the availability of a roof height rack.

xtrusion-overland.com is developing one that may be available by the end of the year. At least, that is what they told my when I inquired about their racks. I’m not sure how they are mounting it to the rails.

overlandruffrax.com apparently has one (as shown at SEMA) near ready to go. I think their racks use the existing Rivian mounting portals. They are pricey, however.

I’m guessing others will follow.

I am waiting for a better option but I retro fit one from my previous truck

I use it multiple days a week for work to haul long metal, wood, and ladders.

I also use it for my RTT

That looks great. Would you be able to share more details about the rack and anything else you added to make it work?

i went to hardware store and bought J-bolts. It’s doesn’t look fantastic up close but it works. Come off and on in 3 minutes.

the rack I have is a rosy pixel universal rack from Amazon.

It looks like you have some sort of spacer between the bed rail and the frame, and had to cut down the end of the j-bolt. Is that correct? I like the idea of the the rack being height adjustable and am considering this option for the same purposes (roof top tent and lumber). How well does the height match the crossbars on the roof? My other concern is how secure and stable it is only being held by 4 j-bolts

The spacer came with the unit. I cut it open in the middle to get the j bolt in how it was needed. I really did mod it a bit because of the short spacing between the first and second hook up point on the truck. And the fact that there is buttons in the bed sides I had to have the base in between the buttons.

but stability is fantastic. I have had lumber, pipes, siding, and roof top tent on there. While doing 80MPH for many of them. I am waiting for a perfect replacement from aftermarket that is not just a struck over landing rack. But this works well for now.

because height/width/length are all adjustable on my rack it fits perfect. And because the sides of the R1T bed are not exactly parallel they don’t match roof heights on both the front and back hook up points with the same rack height (one of them needs more height to match) I can still have it set up to be level a cross all four rails over the roof.

best of all is when I have had to take longer non-camping trips it takes about 5 minutes to remove and 10 minutes to install to give more m/kwh when needed. Although that being said, the rack really doesn’t take away noticeable extra juice to have because it’s mostly behind the cab.

Did you have to modify/shorten the cross arm to make the bases fit between buttons? Curious what tools and how much effort this would really cost me for this solution. I saw you're in Vancouver... might have to do a drive by when I'm in Portland over Easter weekend ??

Not after market, but I have a Thule that works with the Rivian Crossbars:

That's the Thule Sidekick, Model number 682100...if you really need lots more storage, you can actually put two of them side by side. BTW: that's one good looking truck.

Did you have to drill new holes to get this to fit our crossbars? Thule shows a 28 spread and our bars are around 32. I’m also looking at the duraliner 10.

I know it seems counter intuitive, but if you flip your box the other way, it will be more aerodynamic
