I could have missed this, but I had not read about anyone being charged for L2 Rivian charging yet. We skied at Crested Butte yesterday, and the charger near the ski area that was free last summer now costs money. It was $.25/kWh, with a $1 session fee. It is described in the Rivian app. Another driver indicated he needed a Rivian account to pay for the charger. A QR code popped up on the screen when you plugged in, I did not verify if you could pay through the QR code without an acocunt or not. It was easy with the Rivian app, similar to EA you select the charger and begin charging.

Hoping it turns into 'plug and pay' in the future, it felt a little silly needing to tell the charger which one I was plugged into, since it was a Rivian charger.

Interesting. I hadn't heard that they were planning on charging at the L2s at all. It might be up to the site owner.

Their website still says "Automatic charging, just pull up and plug in".

Yeah I think the L2 fees is up to the site host. I know in the case of the L2 chargers going at OR state parks they found sponsors to pay the charging costs for a period of time but Rivian wasn't footing the bill.

Looks like it’s just dependent on where they are installed and who is paying the electric bill. Found a few scattered around the country that show as having a charge, most at private locations rather than state parks or similar.

Interesting. The CB one actually says that as well.

I could have made an error, but I don't believe it began charging immediately after plugging in. I stepped back into the vehicle and waited a second, didn't see it charging, then went out and looked at the screen. It displayed a barcode, I opened the Rivian app and followed the prompts under the 'select a charger' menu. I matched the charger ID with the app and started the charge, like with EA. I received a receipt afterwards in my email.

That's a bit of a bummer...I was planning on using that charger this summer.

The Chargepoint site currently lists is as free, Plugshare say it's $0.20/kWh and parking is $0.25/minute. Even better, it's currently operating at half speed hahah

Nice thing is there are quite a few L2 chargers around there. We actually charged to 100 while skiing, made it all the way home with just 70% battery used. Nice to not have to charge for that whole drive.
In the summer we made it up there without a charge, but you can cut through cottonwood pass. Don’t think you can make it without charging in winter.

As silly as it might sound I would rather have charging be a fee at sites like this. That way people are less likely to opportunistically charge. For example when I was at Crystal Mountain, WA a couple of weeks back they have 8 free L2 spots but they fill up early even on weekdays with PHEVs and other people that don't really need a charge.

They need to have per-minute parking charges and a rate for energy IMO. If you actually need it, it's worth paying for.

Agree, and even a relatively nominal fee of $1 or $2 per session can be a big deterrent to that.
