Ok I skipped the line 7/8 months ago, got a 2nd hand truck just after the peak pricing had dropped off. My store access came up and as I had original pricing I thought wth. Got the truck I wanted for$83 ish which would cost $98k to build today so telling myself it will even out.

For anyone interested here are some observations for new vs old:

No wind noise
No tock
Steering seems much tighter, not that the first one was floaty but this just has a different feel
No noticeable panel gaps
Gear tunnel door in the earlier truck had frayed paint around the corners like they were catching the chassis
No orange peel
Gone from powered to (yet to be delivered) manual tonneau

All anecdotal I suppose but newer one just seems more fully baked. I wouldn’t have let go of the original but for finding a spec I liked in the store, even with its imperfections it was still amazing.

For both of these—especially the tock—I assume this is more of a time issue. My truck had nothing like the tock/squeak when we got it, and it showed up after a few months. I got the squeak fix, but I haven't bothered complaining about the tock (I'll probably have them check it when we eventually get the powered tonneau fixed).

The steering might also be related to time, as it breaks in more.

Finally, for my panel gaps, everything was basically perfect on delivery, but now that I'm nearing 9 months of ownership, the doors have started to relax a bit back, and they don't fit quite as flush as they did. I don't personally mind, nobody would notice unless they were looking for something to complain about, but if you see adjustment marks on the door bolts, you'll likely see this over time, too.

Biggest unresolvable issues on my 32XX VIN are that the doors just seem like they weren't stamped out correctly. There is a little extra wind noise but it's worse having stuff on the roof, which I do pretty regularly, so it does not really matter.

Did you trade in your previous truck or sell it?
I attempted to trade it back to Rivian, but it sat at the trade in step for nearly 3 weeks. I did ping a couple of times, but I got the impression they were struggling to price it, so I gave up and sold privately.

You may be right on the tocking I was maybe 2000 miles in before I noticed.
