Died of old age during the wait
I chatted with CS about this, because the email's so poorly written.

It says you will have to purchase accessories in the gear shop, but also says that "When you take delivery of your R1S, your Adventure Gear will ship separately," which implies that there's some connection between the car order and accessory shipment. There isn't one - you do have to do a separate order, as you'd expect.

They also insisted that gear shop pricing already reflected the pricing from your order date, but double checked during the chat and found that the "early 2023" update from the email hadn't happened yet. No word on what happens if you get your car before that "early 2023" pricing update; I need crossbars on it as soon as possible so can't wait. I'll just buy and then ask for an adjustment, I suppose.

And the agent sees FE and OC R1Ses being made "every day," for what that's worth!

I'm kind of glad my delivery is still some months off. I think that post March 2023 things will settle down and it's obvious Rivian is going through a bit of a shake up. I'm hoping that by the time I get my R1T all this will be working as expected. I would not like to have a new vehicle without a spare and have to wait for the spare to arrive. Personally I would not accept it.
I also just had a look at the tire sealant system they use. I've use the continental mobility system (just in the last 2 weeks) on a Jaguar i-Pace and it worked really well; however the Rivian system needs you to remove the valve core and then squirt the sealant into the tire, then replace the valve core and use the compressor to inflate the tire. Seems like a miss, as they could have just used a version of the Conti system with their own compressor.... removing valve cores at 02:00 am in the dark and cold is not going to be pleasant.

Rivian is consistently streamlining their business model.

Don’t be surprised to see a 2023 price hike e-mail from “Tony” on a future Friday. They can’t continue sell vehicles below their COG’s.

Little stuff like this is slowly adding to what I'm calling "Rivian frustration". Stop changing things, stop doing anything other than making vehicles and putting them in driveways. Don't even hire a web developer to make the changes, put that person out there putting parts together or moving vehicles.

Just wait, pretty soon it will be just like every other car website - oh you want to add a cup holder, sorry you HAVE to include the $4600 in options because its a "package". Oh sorry, nope, you can't have black interior because you have black exterior and we aren't paring them together any more (wait, didn't they already try that with their "ocean coast will be late" nonsense. Spare tire, NOPE sorry, that's part of a $7k package, even though you only want the $341 item. I can see it coming a mile away.

As I drive past a Masserati dealership with a R1S sitting there for sale, I think - where did you go wrong Rivian.... All the while waiting for a delivery thats 9 months away at best. Honestly WTH Rivian.
Strap in bud! Look at my order date. : )

One reason I am worried about ppl in my situation - why should they sell me a LE at 75k when another order is paying 20k more?

Are you pre or post price hike? It would be interesting to take a poll to see if those of us put into the "Processing Estimate" 2025+ penalty box due to not being "near a service center" if we're all/mainly pre-price hike people.
Pre-Price Hike

Ordered in mid 2021 .. increased to more $$ package in Jan 2022 "supposedly to expedite delivery" .. lived thru the increase then reset pricing fiasco .. was told in Apr 2022 that my R1S would be delivered in 1st half of 2023 .. a few months ago I was sent the "not sure if its ever going to happen" (="Processing Estimate" email letting us know that due to lack of nearby service centers, they're not sure if/when my car will be delivered)... and that's where I sit, waiting for my next update.

With all the R1T's driving around here (that somehow managed to buy them and service them), I'm fairly certain that my lower-price order is being punted down the list for higher paying customers (more profitable vehicles).

Rivian needs to quit pulling this "Tesla" crap. OK to make changes going "FORWARD" but should not be altering people's existing configurations that have already placed deposits.

Right now, the deposit only gets you a place in line. In the past and still with most other manufacturers, the added benefit to putting money up front for something you won't get for a year or two, is that you get lock in what you want today.

With prices of "pre-owned" vehicles coming down, almost makes more sense to just buy a pre-owned with less than 100 miles on it than to jump through Rivian's hoops.

They need to focus on keeping their word and delivering vehicles as promised, rather than annoying people with these constant changes.

They give off the impression of being weak as they keep altering things. First, they lost Ford in a huge deal. Now they've lost Mercedes in another huge deal. They post full nationwide recalls because a couple of trucks had a bolt that needed to be slightly tightened. Their actions are turning off potential buyers and costing those that trusted and invested in them, a lot of money with the plummeting stock price. Every time they make an announcement these days, it costs investors significant chunks of money.

At least pretend like you know what you're doing!

I love my truck and happy to have gotten before so many of the features I love were removed. Honestly though, would have been much tougher for me to purchase one today with the reduction in features and offerings and at the increased prices. I was already on the fence when I originally purchased it. All these changes offer no benefit to buyers. Quite the opposite.

Hoping they get their act together as I'm really rooting for this company to succeed. With only one true competitor on the market, they need to be taking advantage of being one of just two EV trucks available. Two more years, there will be a lot more competition and this stuff will not go over well.

I had the same thought. With things going in and out of stock all the time, I'd happily order the things now so I don't have to worry about it later (of course, no spare in the shop at the moment.) I'm sure there's an under-the-hood reason they had to update in sequence like this, but man I keep getting caught in their weird gaps. Confirmed configuration, so I can't ever get the powered tonneau, and now I can't buy any of the adventure gear at the original price online.
Totally agree. Feel like I keep getting caught in the middle. I'd LOVE a powered tonneau version of my truck, but missed the boat on that one. Now this adventure gear situation, which isn't a huge deal. Just keep getting stuck...

I do so love my Rivian emails. Always interesting and open each one with excitement to learn what and how they have modified the original vision of an "adventure vehicle".

This email doesn't really impact me but I am left feeling like they keep scraping the vision just to make the company happen. Im sure that's a hard grind for them.

Next email will be about how consumers are no longer getting "the wheels" or "vehicle will be shipping with 3 wheels" and we will all sort it out later.

Wouldn't be the only 3 wheel EV I have a reservation for.

I’m not too bothered about most of this but I would never consider a spare tire an accessory. If I get a flat on day 1 of ownership I don’t want to have to call a tow truck to take me to get it repaired/replaced.

unfortunately that seems to be the "new norm". If you're lucky, u might get a new car w/ run-flats (which have dubious success, but better than nothing). Just bought an EZ-spare for my Lucid GT .. no run flats and no spare.

on the positive side, the Ford F150 Lightning comes w/ a full spare.

Posted more in another thread, but seriously pissed you now can't get the spare with the truck and it's not even available in the Gear Shop at this point. It's an adventure vehicle...it's bad enough it's being shipped with passenger-metric ATs and not LT ATs with beefy sidewalls. Far too many on the media drives blew tires on rocks and I do plan to off-road mine...won't be doing it without a spare. Even if you were to source a compatible wheel, you still won't get the hold down hardware to prevent it from bouncing around in the hold under the bed.

If anyone in Southern California is interested in a brand new set of crossbars (still in their box), I'd be happy to sell mine at the original $450 price.

I thought I wanted a roof top tent; I guess the wait for the RIvian tent gave me enough time to do more research and realize I don't want a RTT after all.

[Happy to ship them too, but at 28lb+ the shipping price would probably get you close to the price straight from the Gear Shop... and they ship for free]
