Just FYI they do rather depend on the truck bed to hold the weight, so I'd add a shelf or something to the design. You could probably just make them L-shaped with a bit of angled support underneath and it would work fine.
A surround, similar to how they mount when installed would be best.

I would probably bolt through the center bit of what the rail attaches to, at minimum. PETG and ABS, while good, will both likely snap if they have torque applied to them. It's not so much if this will fail, but when.

The last thing I would want is a $250 rod zipping about in the bed of my truck.
Yeah, this is exactly what I recommended to @twraps if he wants to produce them. I fully agree, and printing variability is a big problem. I have a mean 3d printer that has fantastic layer adhesion. This is not the case for all printers/setups.

Yeah. I was going to model the whole receiver thing, but I was trying to avoid spending hours on this, so I went basic. :)

EDIT:

Also, why not just leave them installed on top of the bed or the cab? Rivian has already come out and said that the minimal amount of drag from them won't affect range.
Wind noise. Try it.

The way this is designed to be printed, there is likely to be a tension or compression load that will stress how good that adhesion actually is. Additionally, without fully boxing in that part, you'll also see shearing as well.

Having printed with PETG and ABS extensively over the last few years, both personally on a variety of machines and having items produced for me on industrial equivalents, I think the likelihood of this failing is high. It should be bolted through (at minimum) or constructed from a fiber reinforced material or metal.

I apologize if I'm coming off like a jerk or putting down what you've made - I don't want to belittle what you've done here as I really the concept. I'm just worried that someone is going to snag the print, try to make it at home on a poorly optimized machine only to end up with a broken bit or crossbar projectile.

Ok - just curious. I don't have a set.
I run industrial printers, so I will give it a shot with carbon fiber nylon filament...let's see how breakable this is, but then again I am yet to check what's the weight of these crossbars and run some math about the force being applied to this. There is also the issue of single anchoring point (for the bed install that is), so let's see. Might actually take longer than a few days :)

Nice solution, @rhuber and kudos for just throwing it out there and letting people run with it. The world needs more of this.

Community +1. rhuber in the assist column.

I will have these in production in a a few days. I just want to clarify a few things with @rhuber and also make a small modification for the screw holes...I want to add one more for wall installations and will slate the opening on the top end to allow for screw heads to go in a bit (depending on the screw of course, but still). I will probably provide screws and drywall anchors for wall installations as well.
Please let me know when you have them available. Thanks.

Great idea. If these are made I would be down for 2 sets.

I love the idea of having the crossbars installed on the wall in the garage when unused instead of on the truck as I think they're detracting from the clean look of the truck (maybe it's just me but I care not). I would love two sets, one for each crossbar, separately installed, as a place to hang my microfiber towels and spray bottles ?. Either carbon fiber infused or metal brackets would be great!

Quick update from me - I am still on this but delayed. Having issues printing carbon fiber, because it wraps so much that it literally lifts up the print bed. I am waiting for printing bed clamps today and will try again with them.

@twraps This may not be the place for the request, but I was wondering about 2 items that may be for a future project... 1. A and B pillar PPF in a matte - I really dislike the glossy pillars. 2. Some PPF for the silver grab handle on interior of the door. Mine is already scuffed to hell from my ring hitting it every time I open or close the door. Further, just want to say how much I appreciate your products and involvement in the forum. I have ordered about 5 or 6 items so far, and they all have been excellent!

Thank you so much!

Last time with the R1T I developed the glossy version of the pillars. The matte one would have to wrap around completely otherwise you'll have a glossy edge which won't look so good. I am scheduled to get a R1S in December though and assuming the A/B pillars are the same I can develop both products then. Adding them on my todo :)

IIiya, whatever happened to these brackets?
