Jerry’s dulcet tones & distinct hand/eye/talking to the camera is here after his 6mo. with the R1T, he compares his first drive with a loner R1S (off-road) to his experience with the R1T:

Key moments:
  • He caught that the rear window heating elements also extend to the farthest back two side rear windows as well, meaning (speculative) that the rear windows on the sides should defrost/defog in the cooler weather
    • EDIT: @OutofSpecKyle corrects this (erroneous) guess in another one of his YT videos. The wire elements on the window are antennas, which is probably a big part of why the mobile hotspot, wireless service, etc. Is always so good
  • He wishes he had gone out with a rarer color like Blue + Yellow
  • Smaller than he was expecting (with a flyover view & side-by-side to show the clearest view I’ve seen of that comparison in a video)
  • Showed close-up of the toe cable plug
  • Zero complaints in the video on handling/performance

I've never ever seen a "toe cable plug". I need to check that out.

I was excited for the R1S until I saw one in person. I thought it would be bigger. I'm a bit disappointed it. My delivery window is estimated for late 23 so I will only take delivery if I am close to being out of warranty on my R1T

His tire efficiency explanation is nonsense. There is no difference between ICE and EV.

I do appreciate the videos like this one where his vocal inflections are not random.

Could not agree more on the color. I think they're making a huge mistake falling into the old model of "charge for everything you can charge for" with the colors. You're gimping your image if all of the trucks wind up being white or silver because that's the $0 options and still looks great.

I would have either a yellow or blue (more likely, am married and have someone to answer to) spec'd since the beginning but $2,500 just can't be justified for color. I'd rather teach myself lessons on value and humility than pay someone else who is so blatantly taxing me for nothing.

A lot of people feel like me and it kills their "fun" image imho. If your fans and not just customers have loud vibrant colors about all the fun they're having you take on that Jeep or VW bug persona. I'd have to imagine the value of becoming that kind of iconic image is far greater than a $2,500 up charge on 7% of orders or whatever they're getting.

Maybe I'm wrong, I would probably be the worst CEO for shareholders in general, but as a CEO who wants his brand to be the perfect image of what it should be? Heck, I'd mark up white/silver/black by $5,000. You want to blend? Pay for that privilege.

Edit: This should also be a release color!

I agree that his explanation was poor and it has nothing to do with gas vs battery, but tires and wheels do have a bigger impact on the range of your new EV they did on your old gas guzzler.

Because EV's tend to have a more aerodynamic body shapes, the drag from your tires/wheels account for a larger faction of your energy use and therefore changes to the tires/wheels have a larger impact on your range.

If you were comparing ICE/EV versions of the same vehicle then yes the tire/wheel impact would be identical. But that is not the comparison most people are thinking about when they say wow, it wasn't nearly as much of an issue on my previous vehicle.

Agreed! If I never see another boring white or grey car again it would be too soon. So tired of manufacturers offering black, white, six shades of gray, and maybe two colors. I'll take mine in purple, please. ?

Unpopular opinion: Limestone is just gray. ?

I ran a few OE paint lines in my day. Most vibrant colors are REALLY REALLY difficult to keep consistent both throughout the model year and throughout the day. Add in pieces that are painted offline and you've got way higher rework rates. It costs more because it costs more.

Judging by polls, the uptake on colors is far higher than 7%.

TIL. Is silver the easiest? Because right now that's the only $0 option. If you tell me it's all tied to something that means something and I'm comfortable being the asshole. If I wasn't I'd be a pretty uncomfortable asshole. Preparation H only does so much.

I’ve had some really shitty silvers before and also some that you couldn’t fuck up if you were blind. Rivian had some problems with silver in earlier cars but it looked like it was an equipment issue rather than something intrinsic in the paint. Harley vivid black is still hands down the easiest color to get down I’ve ever seen, even if it exposed every flaw possible in the clear.

I believe Rivian Blue may fetch a higher resale value than the no charge Glacier White.

Someone else on the forums gets credit for this, but Jerry is Will Forte/MacGruber without a wig.

So then silver is hard and they're just up-selling because they know people will do it and I'm right? C'mon man I was legit ready to be humble on this one and you totally ruined it. Now I'm just a raging asshole and I'm not sure Johnson and Johnson is even researching a solution for that.
