One of the CS folks told me that too and then another CS rep told me to still expect my truck (w/manual tonneau) Nov-Dec. I told them that the first rep said to expect Q1 2023 and they apologized and said that wasn't true and that it should be on track for this year. They didn't clarify if perhaps it would be delivered w/o the tonneau though.

The initial email was pretty clear on that, don't know why you had to ask CS (twice).
If you are taking delivery soon, your panels will ship later. Our current estimate is early 2023.

[...] I figured I’d see if folks with bad tonneaus have checked the condition of the channels. If so are there places where it appears that the corner of a tonneau panel has damaged the channel?
FWIW my channels seem fine; the way my cover "fails" is that sometimes it will not open all the way, leaving between 1-3 panels visible. Once that starts happening, it keeps happening. I originally tried the software option in the car to "reset the tonneau", but once I did that it opened halfway, closed, said it failed...and from then on could never open it again. Rivian service fixed it for me, and told me to wipe it down and keep dust off of it. (The service person who said that was grimacing and acknowledging that it was a tough answer.)

The last time mine got stuck in a situation where it wouldn't fully open, I tried a variety of fixes. Giving it extra power while opening did not help; perhaps software had "learned" a new open level, or something was physically preventing it from opening further. I closed the cover, used an air compressor to blast along the tracks from above, opened the cover (stuck 3/4 open) and blasted them again. Then I went to a self car wash (with the cover 3/4 open) and used a power washer to blast out the tracks and then across the top of the cover. It started opening fully again.

“Keep dust off of it”? This advice about caring for the powered tonneau reminds me of the old SNL ad for Happy Fun Ball.

”Do not taunt the powered tonneau. Do not look directly at the powered tonneau…”

Hopefully, Rivian will only deliver R1T's without a tonneau cover for the next year or two. That way they will have to deliver me a truck whether they want to or not because there will be no one left to deliver one to.

EoY rush to satisfy Wall Street deliveries forecast. Not sure inwpuld want one of those rushed cars, if they are anything like Tesla’s
EoQ/EoY “bastards”. Telsa even had a “bastard’s lot” with production rejects and partial builds - that get cobbled together and shipped to make expected quarterly delivery expectations. Yeah, it’s a thing in the Tesla forums, complete with drone bastard lot fly overs.

Fun news to get while my truck is "in transit" with the power cover. Seems like half of you would be stoked and the other half would not take delivery. I have not completed 8 steps for this very reason and am on the fence of whether to go manual or take what I'm getting.
Mine is also in transit. I am going to take what I am getting. While I am concerned about the tonneau, I'd rather get delivery this year and not worry if the "letter of intent to buy" will actually work, so I'd rather know I am getting the tax credit this year than guess that I will in the future. Worst case, it breaks, and I need service to open it, and then I may just ride around with it always open, like 90% of the other pickups out there.

They also have a big problem brewing with their half-shafts/CV-Joints and seem to be taking the same "bury head in sand" approach with that as well with no comms from corporate to customers or SC personnel. We now have owners who have blown out the second set of CV-Joints that replaced the OEM joints from the factory. And it's not like these are 10 year old vehicles with 200K miles on them... these are 2 month old vehicles with 800miles on them.
Some very questionable business decisions being made by Rivian...

I've had chatter when under heavy acceleration, but was told it's totally normal. It's pretty minor, but has been getting worse and worse. I'm just going to keep letting them tell me all is well and normal till that thing finally breaks........

Actually have a 4 panel version of this on my Jeep Gladiator truck. Love it. Can keep it open partial or full. Clicks in and locks which is important to me when I travel with gear in the bed. Wish Rivian would offer this version instead of the manual. Do not like the idea I will now have to find a place to store the panels. (Hope to eventually put Camp kitchen in the tunnel, not tonneau panels.) Maybe someone in after market will catch on to Rivian owners' threads and make these for our R1Ts?

Give me a UteMaster load lid on gas struts with central locking, like they have in Australia.

Any idea if there is any bed volume that will be recovered by not having the powered tonneau?
