Correct. No official dimensions, pricing or details have been released. RWS is coming but it may be an option and not standard equipment.

It's gone essentially unnoticed that the Austin model Y with the structural battery pack is not significantly lighter than the the Fremont Model Y. So no benefit so far from that innovation.

But Tesla has no reason to pass cost savings on to customers. Musk projecting a low cost Model 3 and then a low cost Cybertruck was simply anxiety about demand as Tesla planned to build high volume.

On the flip side the lack of positive margins on the R1 may doom Rivian. It's easy to build popular products when cost exceeds revenue. Musk's genius is in making a profit in cleantech.
I would be careful not to read too much into the margins on the R1. Costs per truck include all the expansion and factory building. Yes this needs to be done, but costs will always be higher for 13k trucks vs 130k or 1.3M trucks. As they build more vehicles they will gradually become profitable, that's the point of my whole statement. They are expected to lose money now, in Q2 they actually lost less money than was projected.

That's why raising capital is so important initially, it costs a ton of money to get a production line up an running so you need money to outlay that initial cost and hope that your production is high enough to generate profit before the money runs out. From everything I've seen about Rivian's projections is they are either on or ahead of schedule in this regard.

Is the wheelbase longer than the typical four door F150?
Online search claims they are both 232 inches long (total length), which could be true. Looking at that famous pulling stunt it appears the CT is actually longer. But that could just be an optical illusion.

Not true. Tesla has eliminated 72 parts that made up the aft end of the Model Y with a single unit. Process improvements due to parts reduction has saved significant time and cost, in addition to QC improvement. It was never about the weight savings alone.

But Tesla has no reason to pass cost savings on to customers. Musk projecting a low cost Model 3 and then a low cost Cybertruck was simply anxiety about demand as Tesla planned to build high volume.
Tesla has, in the past, multiple times increased as well as decreased the price of their vehicles as a direct result of material cost and production changes - not demand issue, as you've characterized. Tesla lowered the prices in China to qualify for the government incentives there, after raising the prices earlier this year due to supply cost increases. They have said during the earnings call that they are on top of supplier issues now, so it makes sense to do so.

I am a long time Musk hater, so take my opinions with a grain of salt. And I am still 50/50 on whether they ever actually make the thing.

I can typically put that aside to compliment good design, but I actually don’t think the CT design makes much sense at all. First of all the thing is enormous. Longer than an F-150. Most Tesla people or even just people not looking for a traditional truck don’t want to drive something that size.
I'm not sure how the rumor got started that the Cybertruck is enormous.

Let's be clear and stop the misinformation.

The Cybertruck prototypes are somewhat similar in size to other full size trucks such as the Lightning F150, but it's actually slightly shorter in length and height and is also slightly more narrow.

In other words, the Cybertruck is smaller than the F150 in every single dimension.

I am not surprised you don't like the Cybertruck given that you haven't looked at the specs yet.

I agree it's ugly... Which is subjective.

But you are using patently false info about the Cybertruck to justify your dislikes. Perhaps if you took time to learn about it, you might like it more.

I know... I know. You are going to tell me you know everything you need to know about the Cybertruck, but just consider the fact you didn't even know how big it was compared to other full size trucks before suggesting you have enough info to make an informed decision.

To be fair, he said it was longer than an F150, not the Lightning F150 so I don't think this is quite the "gotcha" you thought it was going to be.

Not true at all. Look 3 posts above yours, Sport.

Maybe you actually need to look up the "specs"?(which aren't even listed on Tesla's website yet).

I've given up trying to get a feel for the size of the Cybertruck.

In my humble opinion, this ship looks better than the current rendition of the Cybertruck.

When they first showed the truck, they listed the length as 231.7" which is the exact same length as the F150 Lightning, F150 SuperCab 6.5' bed, and SuperCrew 5.5 bed. It's slightly narrower and shorter as well. Since then, Musk has made conflicting statements (surprise, surprise) about shrinking the size so we don't know what the final specs are but I don't see how anyone would consider it enormous compared to an F150. Only the two door models are smaller which doesn't seem like a reasonable comparison. Considering that the best-selling vehicle in the USA is the exact same length as the Cybertruck, I doubt the size is going to be an issue.

Musk actually said later they decided not to shrink it at all. But I accept your point that we don't actually know what the final specs are. I said as much on the first page of this thread. I also posted a photo from that dumb tug-o-war stunt where it looks pretty big compared to a full size truck.

"Best selling" doesn't really tell the whole story, does it? Many people don't want or need a full size truck. Many do. But to have the polarizing design *AND* the size I think will work against it. I could be very wrong though. America does love big trucks LOL

Everything in my post is correct. You called the Cybertruck enormous.

It doesn't matter if Tesla released specs yet... They have the damn truck on display and the exact dimensions are easily found online. I'm sure they will post specs once the production versions are ready.

How on earth can you call a truck the same length (actually a fraction of an inch shorter than many F150s, and 1-2 inches smaller in width and height) "enormous?"

You clearly had no idea the size of the Cybertruck when you made your first post in this thread... And it was obvious. Why else would you have called it enormous and said it was longer than an F150?

F150s and CTs are both enormous. Argue all you want about which is bigger, but driving a full size truck of any kind around in the city is a fucking pain in the ass.

So, the argument over which is more enormous is kinda moot, they both are. (I used to drive an F250 with an 8-foot bed in the city, so i'm pretty well versed in how difficult it is to exist with a large vehicle in places like this.

In the midwest, neither vehicle is enormous, because there's more space in every conceivable way. I still wouldn't want to have a full size truck unless I had a legit reason to need one.

Sure it was. The gasoline powered crew cab F150 is also the same length as the Lightning.

The Cybertruck isn't any longer than either the ICE or EV F150, so... Gotcha ?

It's simply incorrect to say the Cybertruck is larger than ANY comparable F150.

Congratulations to you and your 1 inch, sir. You really got me good there.
