Why should Rivian build this? It may be quick from the consumer point of view but it would be far from quick to develop. How do they guarantee it isn't hacked/abused in some way, and how does this benefit them financially to take away from their limited software development workforce?
Copy Tesla’s implementation. “Factory reset” in the UI and “Remove car”on your account. Done. Two minutes total to complete, not “three weeks” as the other member posted. That’s just “lame”. ?

Building a scalable solution (manual or automated) seems like a win for both the old and new customer involved, avoiding delays in accessibility and in the ownership experience. Which means Rivian is involved in the customer experience beyond delivery and service.
Right, so fanatics here just don’t get that. I was in the commercial airplane production business. “Yeah, let’s not support customers of our airplanes if they didn’t buy it new from us”. How asinine! Inreal mindset, actually. ?‍♂

I’m not sure what you thought you were purchasing?
You have now stepped into the role of an owner of a vehicle from a company in its infancy stages. There are growing pains, we all assumed this frustration when we bought our vehicles new. Patience my new friend. It’s an incredible vehicle, look for positives not negatives, otherwise it will always be lame.

I had a similar experience when I sold my Ford Fusion Energi. Removed the vehicle from my account, installed app on buyer’s phone, and got the new owner registered and setup in under 5 minutes, IIRC. It could be that this is on Rivian’s roadmap but they assumed a low resale rate for the first x months so no need to rush development.

Ultimately, they do have to show they can take care of customers, no matter how they buy the vehicle, because their business model includes add-on/subscription services. I think it’s tougher to sell a used car buyer on extra cost services if it seems like you don’t have your act together at their first interaction with the company.

I guarantee this is on Rivians roadmap. It’s a no-brainer that will save them $$$.

The more vehicles on the road, the more this will be an issue that ultimately costs them money as a manual process that involves multiple employees and minutes of their time they aren’t facilitating further sales.

Im on day 7 here waiting on the transfer. Luckily the previous owner hasn’t seemed interested in waking me up at night or bopping my head with the frunk while digging around in there. ?

When I traded in my ram on a Hyundai kona while I wait for whatever Ev truck comes first of my preorders I went through this with Hyundai. It took them about 10 days to get me listed on the app rather then the original owner. And that’s an established company. I’m sure yours will be handled as well.

if I’m dumb enough to have happily paid er, ah, above MSRP, then I’m dumb enough to buy a second one at pre March pricing.

But she’ll need snow mode.

I’ve been through the Tesla growing pains, which continue today. My Plaid build quality is trash. R1T was better there. Many Tesla UI features are beta, and have been for years. I moved from Tesla (sold MYP) because I wanted to try something new. Will be canceling my Cybertruck order as well. I love the R1T, well most of it.

The owner transfer and requirement that the Rivian have its own dedicated old 2.4G WiFi network is lame. It just is.

This from my guide.

You can make this shite up.

That's easy to answer - Because Rivian doesn't value our privacy - thanks them up to five days to remove the prior owner from my vehicle; meanwhile, the prior owner has access to EVERYTHING I'm going, including gear guard video, from his Rivian app. Yeah, its true. I sent a complaint toe "[email protected]". No way to delete prior owner, or block access without going through the week's long Rivian ownership transfer process.

My Tesla's? Log on Remove the car from my profile, and reset the car to factory settings - Done (less than two minutes).

A BIG MISS Rivian!
Well, Tesla's had more time to refine. Based on the pace of OTA updates I've gotten since April, I think the 'refinery' is working full time...

Most wifi routers are dual band (or higher) now-a-days. You can probably go into your router settings and enable 2.4GHz. JFYI
