Short and sweet details.

R1S, 22s
80 degree weather
mostly Flat Texas drive
224 miles
4pm to 8pm ( rush hour hit in Waco )

usually takes 3.5-4 hours depending on kiddo stops/food

This trip was 4.5 hours. 18 min stop to charge a touch, and a 20 minute Whataburger stop.

Pleasantly surprised at the fact that the trip was not crazy longer than normal, specially considering the accident traffic we hit.

hit traffic a few times, stopped one time to grab some juice to ease my anxiety and also allow me to test modes and speed efficiency a bit.

Been averaging like 1.5-1.8 miles/Kw in town driving~ All Purpose moderate lead foot.

Was definitely anxious about range and after reading watching loads of videos, I was being cautious, accelerating slowly and driving pretty conservatively.

At one point my wife asked me why I was driving so slow. Explained as well as I could, but yeah, not my norm for sure.

Austin to Waco
Conserve mode 100%
drove 65-75 mph
used Driver+ maybe 10% of the drive
Averaged ~2.5miles/Kw

Second half of the drive
Waco to Dallas
Conserve mode 50%
All Purpose mode 50%
drove 80-90mph ( unless a cop is reading this then that’s a mistype )
used Driver+ maybe 10% of that leg
Averaged 2.0 miles/Kw

What surprised me most was how well All Purpose did.

There is, what I felt, a noticable difference in being able to “shoot the gap” in conserve and all purpose. Enough that once I hit Dallas traffic I wanted all 4 motors and all
wheel drive going. I grew up driving here and know the value of being to avoid idiots.

I’ll probably mix up Conserve and All Purpose on the way back - mostly dependent on whether I want to stop to charge for anxiety again. But I feel like I could easily
make it back without a charge.

Hope another anecdote for range may help someone. Don’t think I’ve seen many R1S trip logs yet. Figured it might help for comparison or to ease the minds of others on the wait.

P.S.

my wife laughed at how often I was pulling up the range page and efficiency graph and doing conversions / calculations.

She was finally happy when I finally started passing people left and right. Absolutely thankful she’s not the opposite.

P.P.S

Such a nice drive.

sound system was awesome.

half spotify, half Alexa integrated - music and games like 20 questions and “would you rather”

Road noise compared to Bronco on 35s not even a comparison.

I love the motor whine. Wife said it sounded like a Disney ride.

Comfort level high for seats.

Soooo much cargo space. I like to be a boyscout and there’s sooo mamy places to put rando stuff I’ll never use but absolutely have to have near me.

Butt cooled.

Got so many thumbs ups.

Thing has plenty of power in conserve mode, yet is so much more efficient. I'm not one that "thinks" I want to drive in "conserve" mode, but when I logically have the discussion with myself, I really can't find a logical reason to not use it on long distance trips. More than enough passing power. Had one weirdo on my last trip at 3:00 AM that decided to ride my ass at 85 MPH, despite nobody being on the road. I moved over to let him pass and he slowed down with me. So, I punched it and got it up to 110 in conserve mode with no problem and finally got away from the guy. Averaged over 2.3 Mi/wh with an average speed mostly over 80 the whole way of a nearly 400 mile trip.

Thanks for a great write-up.

Can any R1 owner please tell me if you can be riding 75 mph and decide to switch from conserve to sport mode and back whenever you want? If this can not be done, do you need to be stopped to change modes?

I haven't tried that yet but I have switched from all the other modes while driving no problem. The only one that's gated is off road mode where you go up to full height. I would imagine that you can switch into and out of conserve on the fly.

I take that back, I did switch out of conserve while driving yesterday.

Thanks! Sounds like one can be in conserve at 75 mph, and then if need to do some passing or get away from a jackass, just go into Sport mode and floor it.
Very good feature, if easy to do in real time.

Yeah I guess you could. It takes time for the computer to shift modes though. So if you're looking for some instant pass speed type things it would be quicker to pass in conserve mode. I know it seems counter intuitive but you have to keep in mind that 2 motor config is still 400 and some horsepower. That's around what a Raptor is running with all the time. There's still PLENTY of power to pass anyone if necessary, unless they are actively trying to not let you pass and they are driving something fast themselves.

In that situation passing is pretty dangerous anyways. So the reality is there is plenty of power for day to day operations even in conserve mode.

Great info Dyno. I routinely go to Dallas from Georgetown to shoot and compete. Still waiting for a guide or locked in configuration let alone my R1S. Crazy lotto system I reserved in 03/20 and never a peep. Just curious are you keeping the bronco? I plan to keep mine if I ever get my R1S.

Final question where did you stop to charge up?

You can, I did. Switched from Conserve into All Purpose going 75ish. Took a few seconds for the suspension lift, but felt like the motors came on.

Didn’t switch back, but sure it would be the same.

As much as I would have loved to keep the Bronco, had to sell it. Sure I’m going to regret not holding that note in a few years.

Stopped at the Electrify America charger station at the Walmart in Bellmead (Just north of Waco).

As a point of note, EA app correctly identified the number of, type of, and availability of chargers.

The rivian NAV refused to take me to that one in Bellmead for the trip. It wanted me to stop for an hour in a some small station nearer Dallas, which is terribly inneficient.

So honestly, I expected to have to - and enjoy planning anyway - so use ABRP / EA / Chargepoint apps for best results. Others may have a different experience, but I found this eased my mind for making sure I was making the best decision.

2x350s, 1 broken. 1 taken (by a LG R1T who’s owner I chatted with a bit - and was the first R1S he’d seen in-person )

I took a 150 charger.
Plugged in for 18 minutes. Got 70 miles of range.

Relatively easy - though the phone app said there was an error and couldn’t charge - it started and charged no problem.

Overall, positive experience.

I agree, there is enough.

But there is also more to be had :)

My brain did tell me to drive Conserve, even though my heart and right foot scream Don’t do it!

It struck me specifically when the kiddo asked me to do a “launch” on an on ramp, and it just didn’t scratch that itch.

Seeing the disappointment in your kid’s eyes is a call to action. ?

2.19 mi/kWh x 135 kWh = 295.65 miles, what were you nervous about? What were you watching? Anything over 220-240 is above average.

You're slightly below what the R1T does on the 22s but nothing that would make me concerned.
