For those who already have their R1, I was wondering: Does the vehicle notify you that the flashlight is missing from the driver’s door when you get into the car or take it out of Park?

I’m asking because Rivian has the ability to lock the camp speaker in place, but as far as I know the flashlight can always be removed with a simple push in to release it. I could see accidentally leaving it behind or someone taking it as a souvenir. I know when I get in the car my focus usually shifts from the door handle as I grab it to the interior. I generally don’t spend a lot of time looking at the edge of the door so I don‘t know if I’d be likely to notice that it’s missing.

Can the truck even detect the absence of the flashlight to give a notice on one of the displays? If not, maybe a piece of red reflective tape on the bottom of the flashlight storage area could be positioned so that it’s covered by the docked flashlight and visible if the flashlight is removed. Maybe the bit of red in my peripheral vision while opening the door would be enough to make me realize it isn’t where it should be.

Actually, now that I think about it, does the vehicle notify you if the camp speaker is missing and you go to drive off? I don‘t think you can see the speaker from a driving position… or can you?

I'm not sure if it can detect the flashlight charging... But it does not notify you if it is missing.

I've never gotten a notification about the camp speaker, either, although we know it can detect that.

I was thinking this too.. I figured if anyone wanted to take it they’d soon realize they can’t charge it without the car, I’m hoping that would put off would be “takers”

They may realize it but too late to do the Rivian owner any good. they don’t know about that in advance, someone may take the cool flashlight without any thought to charging it or replacing the battery. When it dies and they can’t charge it, they throw it out, list it on eBay, or send it to e-waste for recycling. Probably in that order of likelihood.

Back in the early ‘90s I had a friend who “borrowed” a desk phone from work. He wanted to know why it wouldn’t work if he plugged it into his home phone line so he asked his nerdiest friend, me. I had to explain to him that the special phone needed to be connected to a special system which allowed it to work. I think he just threw it away.

edit: typo

Sorry. I know that I’m good about remembering things if I can do a habitual check of some sort like checking pockets for wallet, phone, and keys before leaving the house. But even then I can miss something if I’m distracted. Something tells me I’ll only get worse about this with age.

I’m less concerned about forgetting them than I am of a valet or someone taking them without me noticing they’re gone until it’s way too late.

I’m now 100% sure I’m going to leave that flashlight somewhere “clever” ?

the “being taken by a valet” issue seems solvable by just stashing it somewhere else if you know you’ll be valet parking.

personally I’ve never and will never valet park a car. I’ve seen the documentary about that.

I only valet when there is no other option. I haven’t see a documentary about it… unless you count Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.

On ebay, someone's "trash" may be others' treasure. Plus, depending on how much a replacement might cost (is it even available for purchase as an accessory/part from Rivian?), it can be a good option for those who left theirs somewhere inadvertently.

Doesn't Rivian have a valet mode? My Audi does and it really ruins the kid's fun when the car is limited to 35MPH.
