I do wonder if the conventional established automakers will be better As they switch to EV’s. Their big downside may be the loss of service revenue that they have relied on for decades.
Does ford/gm/honda/etc corporate make money off of service? I thought most of that money was being made by the dealerships?

I guess the corporation makes money on service parts, but their supplier I assume make a solid chunk of that. And EVs will continue to need service parts still, just not the engine parts that made up a good portion. But there will still be various electronics having issues, suspension parts, body panels, etc.

When my tonneau broke in the closed position and I needed to haul stuff in a few days, I luckily got an appointment (in Bellevue, WA, Portland, OR SC was only temporarily open). I took the appointment, drove from Bend, OR (~6 hours with charging time), and waited for the repair. They were a bit surprised when I arrived and seemed to hustle things along in the background, knowing I was waiting. They estimated 4 hours (accurate) and washed and charged it for me to make my return.

Being retired certainly helped my situation. I got to take a road trip and learn all kinds of new tidbits along the way. Still frustrated that I don't have my spare or kitchen, now adding to the list: the "Rivian Waiting Lottery on the tonneau". The life of a new-product unofficial beta-tester!

Everything changes, everything is connected. Pay attention!

Over a week at the CS getting issues with the Infotainment and exterior body. Picked up vehicle and Infotainment still had the same problem. Made a U-Turn and showed them, " I know how to fix that. Just press the two outer buttons on the steering wheel..." Why do they think I brought it in, I am not going to be resetting my Infotainment system all the time, that was the reason for the appointment. Grrrr!

Value of a product or company is based on its' customer Service.

Please don't tell me that they are just getting started and are in the learning stages, no excuses for some of the issues that I have experienced.

Just came back from Home Depot where someone asked me how I liked my car. He proceeded to tell me that he had come from San Diego and three of his Engineer friends had taken jobs at Rivian and really liked the car. I proceeded to tell him that the car is great, but that Customer Service has a problem. I explained that when you have to wait four months for an appointment, then leave the car at the center for about ten days and get it back with the same electrical problem, then Rivian has a problem. Now I need to schedule another appointment.

Yes, I was referring to the dealerships in that statement. My concern is that they (dealerships) won‘t be happy with the service revenue or may jack up parts prices to compensate. I know of a place in my town that charges 10% over MSRP for parts so it does happen and I doubt the manufacturers would step in

Likewise! Here's hoping you don't need to go in for service again anytime soon.

Mine is El Cap / BM on 20" ATs

Of course, there's a better than even chance that my 2023 delivery will slip to 2024, so perhaps that will be time enough for Rivian to work out their teething problems. Perhaps even time enough for them to open a SC in the 5th largest city in the country.

Well nothing happened on mine all Saturday. From what I could tell in the app, they aligned it, test drove it, and hooked it up to the charger by 10am today (Tues). Took 5hrs to get a call to say it was done after that. At least they called without me having to chase them down through the call center.

Followed by a reminder that the tow notice could take another 24-48hrs!:punch:

@shumdit any good news on your tow today?

OP…I just read this whole thread and I sympathize with your issues (I’m sure I would likely be pretty peeved myself). However, for another perspective, look at the bright side…to experience the problems you are having, you have to have received your truck. I have no delivery date in site (no guide contact either) - likely a year or more from now (if I’m lucky :().

Maybe thinking of it this will help you bear it a bit better? Regardless, I wish you the best of luck and someday when I’m dealing with some issue at the SC, I will endeavor to remember my own words ?.

Take care and enjoy that awesome R1T!!!
