I know many of us have been wondering whether the R1S has more rear seat legroom than the R1T on account of the sliding rear seat. The video below at 22:07 compares the two and finds that the R1S has 3 inches more legroom!

This is not surprising. R1S has substantially more interior volume. I can also attest to there being more headroom as I’ve sat in both vehicles in the Venice Hub. I am 6’1 and my head hits the roof of the R1T when sitting in the backseat. In the R1S I have a few inches of clearance sitting in the backseat. Additionally when sitting behind myself in both vehicles legroom is noticeably better in the R1S.

I feel like the back seats in the R1T sit higher (stadium seating), which may be why the headroom is so noticeably different. It’s actually one of the reasons I switched my order from R1T to R1S. The interior space of the R1T isn’t enough to be a family hauler or comfortable long distances if a tall adult is sitting in the back seat with a tall adult (me) in the front seat.

That said, I personally like the look and exterior proportions of the R1T better than the R1S.

Actually, I'm just noticing that the rear seat cushion looks shorter in the R1S than the R1T. Look at the guy's shorts. At 22:17 his shorts are hanging about 2 inches over past the end of the lower cushion. At 23:04, in the R1T, his shorts end about 2 inches before the end of the lower cushion.

You are not wrong. I took some screenshots. While this would not affect where the knees are compared to the front seat, ie total legroom. Based on just the blank space measurement between front and rear seats this would affect that.

I think maybe this was done so they could have more underseat storage in the R1T.

posted some screenshots from the video.

Where the shorts are is not an accurate way to measure. At 11:45 his shorts are much further back.

Agreed, but in the screenshot there appears to be a clear difference in the cushion length (regardless of where the shorts are).

It's not necessarily accurate, but it's a useful gauge. The difference looks significant to me, and also helps to explain the difference he finds in measuring the edge of the cushion to the front seatback. His knees look to have approximately the same distance to me.

R1S seats are meant to move forward in a half position to allow for space in 3rd row (I believe). Smaller cushion also allow seat to slide further forward to access rear seats. Good design compromise provided the leg support is still oK.

His knees to seat back appear to be about same distance.

This is a bummer. I was excited about the extra legroom in the video, but looks like it's just a shorter lower seat. I wish they'd make a long wheelbase R1S on the same chassis as the R1T. The extra legroom and storage would really be great for my family!

I think the point being made, is that the distance from the front of the knees to rear of the seat is basically the same in each vehicle, which is what people really care about. It actually means the R1T is more comfortable, because you have the same space in front, but more of your legs are supported (if you're an adult).

I think the takeaway is that it's at least as much as the R1T, which is still plenty comfortable for an adult. And if you're concern is for family, it's no difference in that regard for child/young adult. You're still getting far more interior volume and seating capacity, so the S is squarely the better family vehicle from an inside the cabin perspective.

I'm not saying it's less than the R1T, I'm saying I could use more space than my Model X and this is tighter than I'd hoped. I really wanted something with space more along the lines of at least a Kia Telluride (my SIL has one), which has several inches more legroom in each row. Given they make a long wheelbase version of this chassis, they could just make an SUV version of the R1T chassis length and be ultra roomy!

Difference in leather color, lighting, and foot position.

Sure, but that would compromise other attributes that are important to the vision for the product. Perhaps they will make a long wheelbase version in the future, but for right now, performance and off road capability are more important then a couple more inches of legroom. Remember, their muse for the R1S was the Porsche Cayenne, so that's what they are expecting to be compared against.
